The Nevis Range gondola serves the World Cup DH course

BBC News reports that five people have been injured after a collision between two cable cars at the Nevis Range near Fort William in north west Scotland, annual home to a round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. The 80-car gondola system is used to access the top of the World Cup DH course as well as giving climbers and walkers access to the upper slopes of Aonach Mor.

The BBC story (which can be found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/5177392.stm) is changing minute by minute, but confirmed details appear to be that one car slid back down the cable and collided with the following one. The incident occurred at Tower 14, near the top station. Some passengers are reported to have fallen from the gondola, although the drop to the ground at that point is described as "not very great". Two RAF helicopters, an air ambulance, four ambulance crews, police, fire brigade and a mountain rescue team were sent to the scene.
