Interbike: Report 5

ib06_mongoosecanaan_lo (11K)

Mongoose Canaan reinvents the existing Freedrive suspension platform into a short-travel endurance race weapon.

ib06_astrixrook_lo (11K)

Astrix is best known for full suspension bikes, but the Rook is a 29in-wheeled hardtail.

Banshee/Mythic

ib06_bansheepyre_lo (11K)

Banshee (known as Mythic in the UK for tedious trademark reasons) is branching out from its big, burly bike niche. The Pyre is a 5in travel trail/all-mountain kind of thing with a short-link back end.

ib06_bansheeviento_lo (11K)

The new Viento is an XC hardtail in the loosest sense, which is to say that it's for riding about and having fun on rather than racing.

ib06_canfield_lo (11K)

Canfield's Balance offers between just under 5in and a whisker over 6in of travel and can take a wide range of forks - layout is similar to the 9in travel Formula One but there's a bit less of it. Front end is 4130 chromoly, back end is 7005 aluminium - there'll be an all-alu option too./p>

ib06_curnuttair_lo (10K)

Foes has added a short-travel bike to its low-leverage-ratio range - more on that later. It's also working on an air-sprung version of its big Curnutt platform-valved shocks, which should address the weight issues associated with long-stroke coil shocks.

CELLO

ib06_cello1_lo (10K)

The CELLO bike case is a bit cunning. It's based on a BOB YAK monowheel trailer, with some extra fittings so you can rigidly mount your part-dismantled bike to it.

ib06_cello2_lo (10K)

Stash the BOB wheel inside, put up the folding sides and top and presto - a flight case for your bike. When you arrive, take the bike out, put the wheel back on the trailer and tow it with you.

ib06_garagegorilla_lo (12K)

Garage/shed getting a bit crowded? Make the most of your roof space with the Garage Gorilla powered extending bike store thing.

ib06_dainese_lo (8K)

Forget raw carbon, raw fibreglass is where it's at.

Sidi

ib06_marzrocoair_lo (4K)

A couple of new things from Marzocchi. First up, an air version of the Roco rear shock - all the easily-rebuildable benefits of the coil Roco but lighter.

ib06_marzshoe_lo (9K)

And some shoes.

Sportsmobile

ib06_sportsmobile1_lo (10K)

Sportsmobile specialises in van conversions for the outdoor pursuiter. This Mercedes Sprinter just has a couple of extra windows on the outside, but inside there's extra seating, a fold-down bed, storage and a kitchen area.

ib06_sportsmobile3_lo (9K)

Plus, of course, plenty of room in the back for bikes. Inevitably, the show van had a big stereo, DVD player and all that stuff too.

ib06_adeogps_lo (3K)

The Adeo is a bike computer with a difference. It's GPS based and rather than a display, it talks to you through headphones (turning the wick on your music player down if you're using one). You can programme which information you'd like and how often and the synthesized voice will keep you up to date. You can also upload training plans and it'll tell you what you ought to be doing as you go along.

Storck

ib06_storckadrenalin_lo (9K)

German high-end manufacturer Storck continues to evolve its range. The full-suspension Adrenalin is now available as a full carbon bike, right down to the linkage plates.

The Rebel Carbon hardtail promises plenty of stiffness from a 2.8lb package.

....looks as mad as a box of drunk frogs.

Chromoly front triangle? Linkages a-go-go? Surely there's an easier way!
