SixSixOne Launch SPD shoes

SixSixOne has been making stylish and rugged clothing for the dirt jumping/tough riding fraternity for many years, and while the Launch shoes are ideal for such use, they're also suitable for trail riders looking for a more comfortable option to stiff race shoes.

The design of the Launch shoes clearly opts for the skater school of design, but a stiff sole means they offer decent pedalling performance while just enough give allows for comfortable walking; whether pushing back to the top of the hill or scoping out a jump spot. The sole is available as SPD compatible or without for use with flat pedals.

With feet inserted, the thick padding makes them a comfortable place for long rides, and there's enough protection from rock strikes thanks to the stiffened heel cup and a toughened toe area. We've been using them for ages and even treating them as badly as possible they've shrugged off everything we've thrown at them.

Thick flat laces (we had to cut them down a little) hold the shoes in place well. A removable Velcro overstrap keeps excess lace length from flapping about and getting caught in your chain device.

Ups and downs

good Comfortable, stylish, stiff soles good for SPD use

bad More expensive than non-SPD version, laces too long

Verdict

For hitting the slopes and trails the Launch are a good alternative to stiff race shoes, being comfortable and a good combination with platform clipless pedals for planted pedaling on the rough stuff. The sole is just stiff enough for pedaling too, and their tough reinforced design will shrug off any abuse with ease.

how hot did your feet get? Doesn't look like there's much ventilation and some skater style trainers I have never get used because they're like little foot ovens.
