Revolution is Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative's own clothing brand, and the Trail shorts are the baggy offering in the range. They're actually made by Endura, but to a design exclusive to Revolution - it's not just label engineering.

The outer shorts are made from a super-soft fabric with an almost velvety feel. The seat panel is a beefier nylon material and there's a stretchy bit across the back. Your pocket selection includes two zipped front pockets, two flapped cargo pockets and two rear pockets, one zipped and one open. That's quite a lot of pockets but they're all fairly unobtrusive.

Waist adjustability comes courtesy of a webbing belt, with a well-thought out low-profile buckle that won't interfere with any pack that you may happen to be wearing. Further tuning of fit is available at the opposite end, with Velcro tabs at the hem should you wish to reign in any excess baggitude.

What really sets these shorts apart, though, is the price. Under £35 is usually stitched-in liner territory - not fundamentally a bad thing, but it reduces versatility. The Trail, though, includes a pair of CoolMax padded undershorts. It's not the greatest liner that we've ever nestled in, but at this price it's almost churlish to complain.

These are really jolly good. The undershorts aren't anything special, but getting anything at all at this price is a bonus. The outer shorts are splendid, with ample (but not excessive) features and an agreeable soft feel. You could certainly spend a lot more money and not really get much else for it...
