Open MTB Gran Canaria Marathon

Open MTB Gran Canaria Marathon Open MTB Gran Canaria Marathon

This is an event for those seeking a new challenge. The Open MTB Gran Canaria is now in its third yet and will take place on 8 March 2008, making it a good season opener. Online registration opened earlier this month.

The Marathon on the sunshine island has become a popular season opener, because it can be combined perfectly with a spring trainings camp. Marathon organiser Petra Wonisch is already swamped with hotel requests, because more and more mountain bikers use the opportunity to vacation with their family.

As in past years, there's two distances to choose from, 38km or 90km, but both share scenic singletrack, breathtaking views and attractive prizes. As well as the event itself, the organisers offer great marathon-training camp-packages, so if you're tempted jot it into your diary now and factor in a week-long vacation.

The event also coincides with international women's day, and organiser Petra Wonisch is keen to highlight this in the 2008 event. “It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. For us this specialday is worth a special activity - within the scope of the Open MTB Gran Canaria we're organising a special Ladies Marathon.“

“Women can, depending on their physical condition, participate in the semi Marathon or ride a few teaser loops in the park. We invite women of all age groups to join us, because for each ridden kilometre a donation will be made in aid of the Association Contra Cancer de Mama', the association against breast cancer.”
