Hit the North 12-hour race

Hit the North 12-hour race

It seems 12-hour enduro races are all the rage right now, judging by the number of new events launched just this year alone. Latest to join them is the Hit the North 12-hour race, taking place on Saturday 19 July.

Entries for the event, based in North Manchester, are sold out so if you were planning to enter, well, you've missed your chance. But for those entered, you can look forward to an event billed as “a 12 hour endurance mountain bike race across the post industrial landscape of north Manchester...”

The organisers have laid on an 8.4mile course that promises to include the mandatory mix of twisty singletrack and challenging climbs, with a fearsome drop off, fast gravel sections through recently planted woodland, tunnels, viaducts, motorway crossings, railway cuttings, cobbles, a bit of tarmac and a blast through the ornamental gardens of a stately home long since reclaimed by nature - sounds like a good combination to us.

If you're not riding but are in the area, why not head along and lend your support by cheering on the riders. Racing starts at 10am. Directions to the venue are on the website here.

Good luck to everybody taking part (but just don't mention the weather...)

There's plenty of information on the website www.hitthenorth.net.

Considering the rain we're having, half the course may be underwater (its about 2 miles from where i live). Wouldnt be suprised to see it cancelled even. Fingers crossed they can just do some last minute course alterations.

Its gonna be muddy, really muddy.
