Member Reviews: Weekly highlights

The member reviews system is a wonderful resource. It's packed to the seams with 1,000s of product reviews written by the good readers of bikemagic.

But we're never satisfied here at BM Towers. We want to see your product reviews. We're after reviews as helpful as the four below, we're not interested in one-line reviews, but carefully-crafted, well thought-out and objective reviews. They don't just have to be bikes either, as in the examples below, but any part of the bicycle that you've recently upgraded. Whatever it may be, share it with the BM community.

Specialized S-Works Epic FSR Carbon frameset

Specialized S-Works Epic FSR Carbon frameset by Peter St-Amour 2
I gave it a few years to finesse the design, and once the Brain's performance got good reviews I bought a frame to replace my Whyte PRST-1 which was good, but too heavy for racing. Weight is not an issue with the S-Works Epic. I don't know exactly, but mine is easily sub 22lb with 100mm travel at both ends and no stupid silly racing only parts.

The quality of it is very good, with well finished paint, seemingly good bearings that haven't given any grief yet and thoughtful design touches. The wheelbase may be a touch long and not that lively on the steepest climbs, but the pay off is excellent stability at speed. Which is something that comes naturally with this frame. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you want to go fast and are not riding over deep rock gardens regularly then give it some consideration. If your terrain is tougher, the low bottom bracket may not make this your frame.

Lizard Skins Softcell Knee-Shin Guards

Lizard Skins Softcell Knee-Shin Guards by Graeme MacLean
Comfy enough to wear all day. Several days in a row. For pedealling! The thick section that sits on top of the knee cap seems to stop them falling down and keeps everything in place. Seem pretty good at keeping body parts on the inside and rocks on the outside. Thick plastic and well padded. Vents actually seem to do something once you get moving.

Bike Greece Greece: Coast to Coast

Bike Greece Greece: Coast to Coast by david clark 18
Some cracking singletrack on the mainland and super time on the island of Evia - seeing a Greece not seen by tourists. Excellent guides with good local knowledge.

Shimano M424 SPD pedals

Shimano M424 SPD pedals by robert knox
Solid, easy connection, long lasting, don't need cycle shoes for short shopping trips. I even moved them onto my road bike as I was so comfortable and used to them. Only getting rid of them to lighten up my road bike.
