Cannondale unleash featherweight Scalpel

Cannondale have revealed an 8.8kg Scalpel for its sponsored riders competing in the MTB XC at the Beijing Olympics this weekend.

The Cannondale-Vredestein Mountain Bike Racing Team members, Roel Paulissen, Jakob Fuglsang and Kashi Leuchs, will each pilot a very special edition of the Cannondale Scalpel. The bike is already no heavyweight, weight issues addressed with a full carbon frame, flexible carbon chainstays and carbon-canned DT Swiss shock.

But the overall weight isn't all due entirely to the frame, it's the components that help deliver that low-weight. Items such as Cannondale's Si SL 2x9 mountain crankset with ceramic bearings, Vredestein prototype Black Panther tubular tyres and Mavic's prototype tubular wheelset. And of course a custom paint job. Should give the riders an edge.

I want one. Maybe not in those colours (because, you know, yuck - unless you're dutch or Spanish or German I guess) but otherwise. Hubbah.

And what are 'our' boys on for the race I wonder?
