Relentless 24 report

Last weekend the Relentless 24 took place and in the process 300 riders clocked up an impressive 14,000 miles between them.

The event, which took place on 11-12 October, is now in its third year and uses many of the trails made famous by the World Cup XC series, with riders taking on sections of the Witch's Trails as well as Leanachan Forest around Fort William, Scotland.

Riders competed as solo, pairs and teams of three and four and, without exception competitors praised the route for its variety, technical challenge and above all it's rideability throughout the entire 24 hours. Many paid testament to the skills and dedication of the No Fuss team, organisers of Relentless 24.

In the solo class Jamie Cameron from Fort William achieved an outstanding 27 laps of the seven mile course in 24hrs 6mins 31secs, two more laps than nearest rival Tim Mackley who could only manage 25 laps in 23hrs 19mins 31secs.

Two Fort William teams battled it out in the fours with The Glencroft Rabble, who were defending their 2007 title, eventually taking home the trophy having covered 36 laps. A mixed team of four from Nevis Cycles and Off Beat Bikes could only cover 25 laps, but still took home the mixed team title.

“This was a true No Fuss Event with riders of all ages and abilities enjoying themselves on some of the best trails in the world with music and entertainment thrown in to create a real family atmosphere,” says No Fuss Events organiser Frazer Coupland. “Our volunteers were fantastic, not only marshaling the course for the whole race but also providing riders with a 70's disco throughout the day and night. A chocolate fondue even made an appearance to keep spirits high and energy levels boosted. However the greatest moment was watching the leading riders crossing the finish line to the sounds of Abba Gold at full volume.”
