Mid-range wheelsets from Shimano

MT65 and MT15 wheels to fit in below spendy XT and XTR options

Shimano has a range of high-end MTB wheelsets already, but later this year it'll be releasing a couple of mid-range options that will apparently offer "an excellent price/performance ratio".

First up we have the MT65 UST Tubeless-compatible wheelset. MT65 will be disc-brake only, although it'll be available in Centerlock or six-bolt versions. In common with the XT wheels, the MT65 units use straight-pull round spokes, with 24 per wheel. No weirdy lacing patterns here, it's good old crossed spokes all round. Claimed weight is 1,796g for the pair (817g for the front, 979g for the rear).

If you're happy with inner tubes, then take a look at the MT15 wheelset. It's Centerlock disc only (although adaptors are available to run six-bolt rotors on Centerlock hubs). The hubs have conventional flanges, with 28 bladed stainless steel spokes. They're a little heavier at 1,982g a pair (895g front, 1,087g rear).

Centerlock MT65s will be available in July, with the six-bolt ones along in August and the MT15s bringing up the rear in September.
