Giro has traditionally been just a helmet company, but last year it launched into the eyewear market with an impressive range of products, and this year it follows with the debut of gloves. And an impressively wide range it is too. There's also several new eyewear models, and a brand new race helmet.
Giro has replaced the E2 with this, the Athlon |
The new Athlon replaces the long-standing and firm race favourite E2. The latter was such a classic that perhaps wisely Giro has chosen not to change the winning formula too much, which explains why it looks startlingly similar.
The biggest difference is the vents, there's now 23 which have been designed in the wind tunnel so it should suck and pull air through the helmet much more effectively. Underneath the in-mould microshell there's an EPS liner which creates an exoskeleton around the vents, and Roc Loc 4 keeps it snug on your head. The Athlon costs £99.99 and is available in five colours.

'Pop Top Technology' allows for really easy and quick lens swappage |
Giro offers four 'Dual Sets' which include two different lenses inside a new hardcase |

The Tour winning Havik is joined by the Havik Full Lens - the bottom of the lens drops down further for increased coverage, and there's venting at the top |
A bit roadie these, but nice, which is why we decided to include them... |

Of more interest are its full finger gloves. This is the Remedy, one of Giro's more expensive offerings. On first impressions we can see established glove brands raising eyebrows |
They fit really nicely, and the palms have well placed d30 padding - it's clever stuff this, soft under normal use but hardens up upon impact |
