Martin Söderström won the fourth Vienna Air King last weekend in an event that attracts top riders from across the globe.
Conditions for the first big freestyle event of the year were perfect, and local course designer Andi Brewi had laid on an impressive track for the riders to hit some huge moves in front of 100,000 spectators.
Riders had three runs in which to lay down their best moves and tricks, with the best run counting for the overall. It was Martin Söderström, who had a lot of pressure on his third run since he blew the first two runs, he pieced together the perfect ride for the victory.
How did he win? Well, his run consisted of a clean 360 at the step down, a double tailwhip on the first jump, a 360 on the second, a bar spin on the third set and to finish it off a 540 on the quarter pipe. Söderström walked away with €2500 prize money and a Panasonic camera.
Amir Kabbani also showed a stunning run to take second place, and Paul Basagoitia finished in third. It was a good showing for the British riders, with Sam Pilgrim and Lance McDermott finishing 4th and 5th respectively and showed some true style on their runs.
