New trails open at Sherwood Pines

New trails open at Sherwood Pines

Work on a £300,000 project to turn Sherwood Pines Forest Park into a Centre of Cycling Excellence has been completed, and cyclists are being invited to a free Family Fun Day on 26 April where the new trails will be officially unveiled.

Already attracting over 250,000 cyclists every year, the new trail network has been built for riders of all abilities, and will include a training loop, 3 mile and 6 mile family and adventure trails and a fast and demanding 8 mile cross country route.

“The key aim of the project is not just to provide top end facilities for ardent bikers," says Recreation Manager Chris Bray, "but also terrific new opportunities for casual and family riders and get more folk to saddle up. There's plenty of scope to develop your skills, or just enjoy a relaxing ride. The new trails look fantastic and will be a tremendous boost to the whole area.”

The new trails will open for the first time at the Family Fun Day, which is being staged as part of Spring into Health Week aiming to get folk into the woods to keep fit and chill out. Activities are based around the forest visitor centre and events run from 10am to 4pm.
