Sea Otter: Pro Short Track

Saturday sees the start of the "proper" racing at Sea Otter. The Pro Short Track took place under sun and blue skies - unlike previous years, it didn't rain, no wind whipped up a sand bath for everything left out in the open and the temperatures failed to plunge.

The tight singletrack course meant there weren't many places to easily pass - this climb at the far end of the course seemed to be a favourite.

Hands on hips - much easier than racing.

Emily Batty is a name you'll no doubt be familiar with soon, if not already. 21 years old, she finished ahead of Byberg and Pendrel in a convincing win.

For a while it was a Specialized 1-2-3, as Burry Stander, Christoph Sauser and Todd Wells quickly established a commanding lead on the rest of the pack. A mechanical forced Sauser out of the race, but Wells and Stander powered ahead, finishing first and second respectively.
