SSUK09

Whether you believe that singlespeed bikes are some kind of holy zen grail of spiritual tree-hugging bicycliclar oneness, the work of an elite corps of Satan's most demonic imps, or you subscribe to the borderline subversive notion that they're just simple bikes that you may or may not find fun to ride, few would deny that the unisprocketed niche is a substantial (and vocal) one. One way or another, then, you're likely to want to be updated on the forthcoming 2009 UK Single Speed Championships at Dalby Forest on 6/7 June. Although we appreciate that some people may wish to know exactly which weekend they want tot stay well clear of Dalby on.

For the rest, here's the latest missive from the SSUK09 command bunker:

The upcoming 2009 UK Single Speed Championships at Dalby Forest on the 6th and 7th of June has provided scientific proof that pronouncements of singlespeeding's demise are distinctly premature. Nearly 300 riders have already signed up and places on the start line are disappearing fast. Strong local support for the race from bike shops and companies has been matched with prize donations from all over the UK and overseas.

Local sponsors include Pace Cycles, Big Bear Bikes, Boarding Edge, Moonglu and Fulford Cycles. Other nice people include Buff, Endura, Clif Bar, Crank Brothers, Great Rock, Singletrack Magazine, Singular Cycles, Royal Racing, Sunline, Niner, Chub, Ernesto Lube, Team Nutrition, Sideways Cycles, White Industries, Superstar Components, Charlie the Bike Monger, OneFGear, The Cycle Jersey, Cycle Surgery, Dirt Rag and Drunk Cyclist.

With a tough course taking in the best riding that Dalby has to offer, refreshments from Cropton Brewery, and entertainments from Rollapaluza, plus live music, all the ingredients are there for a classic weekend of good riding, a fantastic night of fun, and some cracking racing.

If you fancy a bit of that then head over to www.ssuk09.com and sign up. The website also has details of how to start the race with one particularly special number on the front of your bike. We've no idea why it's so popular, but lots of people seem to want it. It could be you - check the website for more!

SSUK09 is supported by the Forestry Commission and SingletrAction - Yorkshire's Mountain Bike Trailbuilders. SSUK09 is organised for fun, not money - anything left over will go to support the local trails for everyone to ride.

So there you go. There're some stonking trails at Dalby, it looks like you're in with a good chance of winning something nice regardless of how fast you ride, and there'll be beer and music. We suspect that even the most ardent geared fundamentalist will be able to find some element of win in there. That clicky linky once again - www.ssuk09.com.
