Exposure Joystick doubles up

The ever-inventive people at Exposure Lights have come up with a handy gizmo to boost the versatility of the popular Joystick single-LED light. Current generations of Exposure Lights include what the company calls the Smart Port - a socket in the back through which the light is charged but that can also be used to connect a remote switch or a tail light.

Exposure's new "piggyback" lamp uses the Joysticks' Smart Port to power a second identical LED emitter that clips to the side of the parent light, effectively doubling the output. The piggyback light is always on at full power regardless of what you set the main light to, but you can eke out battery life by turning the main light to low.

A few things inspired the piggyback light. Some riders using them as helmet lights found them a little overwhelmed by Exposure's own 3 and 4-emitter bar lights, and those using just Joysticks wanted a bit more oomph. At aound £40, the piggyback light is a neat solution.

I tried one of these at Mayhem and there is plenty of light, you want a second light for racing as it can get a bit hairy at speed but for normal riding there is plenty. The very low weight means you just don't notice it on the helmet. The only gripe I would have is the run time, most of my rides take about 3 hours and no matter how you cut it you will be on a back up by then with the piggy back.
