Surely a sign of the growing depth and strength of British MTB rides, British Cycling has today announced that it will fly 28 riders over to Canberra, Australia for the 2009 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships on 1-7 September.

Current World Champion Gee Atherton will be seeking to defend his title but currently on form Steve Peat will also be on the team. They'll be joined by Marc Beaumont, Josh Bryceland, Brendan Fairclough, Fionn Griffiths and Tracy Moseley.

Representing Britain's XC interests will be Commonwealth Cross Country Gold medallist Liam Killeen alongside Oli Beckingsale. Sue Clarke is the only women XC racer.

Besides an impressively strong senior squad is an raft of younger riders, such as Annie Last and Danny Hart.
