BM heads to Sleepless in the Saddle

The Endura Sleepless in the Saddle, the final 24 hour race of the season (is it that time of year already?) has always been a more laid-back affair than the mighty Mountain Mayhem, and once again heads to Catton Hall, Staffordshire where it has been settled now for some years.

And after a couple of years of non-attendance, Bikemagic will be fielding a team. Well, not really a team but a pairs entry. Yes, both BM's own David Arthur and office chap and all-round nice guy Juan Christen will be tackling the race together, flying the BM flag. If you see either of us, give us a shout, or a push.

This traditional end of season celebration is being sponsored by Endura, and following their shorts amnesty last year will this year be offering riders the juicy opportunity to trade in their tired and smelly gloves for a brand new pair of Singletrack gloves, for the small price of just £12.50. Sounds tempting to us, and worth digging out all those rotten gloves living unloved at the back of your wardrobe. (This offer will be on a first come first served basis but they will do our best to facilitate everyone.)

Endura owner Jim McFarlane was enthusiastic at the prospect of being involved with SITS stating:

“Sleepless in the Saddle is an event that epitomises the culture of what mountain biking is all about; It's less about winning and more about getting on a bike with your friends and having a good time. At Endura we have always been less interested in lining the pockets of elite superstars and more excited about supporting events and activities that encourage people to participate in cycling and to preserve its status as a healthy and sociable sport. We're all really looking forward to getting in the saddle at this year's event which I am sure will be better than ever.”

The course

Substantial changes have been made. Last year's relentless rain gave both the riders and the ground a real hammering, so over 60 tonnes of surfacing has been laid in a number of trouble spots in order to make the track a lot more sustainable and weather resistant. The course winds its way through 8 miles of the undulating grounds of Catton Park that has proven over the years to be a suitably challenging, yet enjoyable test for riders of all abilities.

Facilities

In the arena area you can expect more facilities and , including the event's biggest ever selection of trade stands, shops and displays including Endura's full range on show, experienced event caterers, demo rides, free light charging station thanks to Exposure Lights and free bike wash laid on courtesy of Muc-Off. On top of that to make for a really special weekend all competitors can expect ample free camping next to the course, hot showers, flushing toilets and the invaluable free pre & post ride massage.

Lights

Exposure Lights will be the official light sponsor for the event and once again will be setting up stall with their brand new range of lights, which Bikemagic revealed exclusively to the world just a short while ago. We'll be trying out some of their new products and will bring you first ride reports next week.
