Strengths: Perfect location, superb weather, fantastic people, great food and more riding than you can shake a ham at ;-)
Weaknesses: you get far too used to the sunshine and riding in shorts that it feels criminal to put tights on again for your first ride at home.
Overall: The area around Lanjaron, is not far from idillic, and it's location to Granada airport means you can be there in around 45mins.
The riding is technical, but even when it beats you, you finish the ride with a feeling of... I'll be back soon and I'll get you next time.
Simon and Emma are great make you feel very at home, and their experience and that of their guides, Eoin and James gives you confidence that everything has been very well organised and well planned and that you're in safe hands.
I have more than a few rides that I have on my list for next time, so I'm really looking forward to my next trip out. :-)
Strengths: Simon & Emma are superb hosts who make you feel right at home from the very beginning. The guides James and Eoin were both great fun to ride with and very fast up and down. Great tapas bars for all your ham-based needs.
Weaknesses: Will make your usual riding locations rather boring and you'll have riding withdrawal symptoms when you return.
Overall: A great holiday. Loads of challenging climbs and descents. Will certainly be returning. As much as I learnt in a week I still think there are switchbacks I need to master, technical climbs I want to complete without dabbing (or pushing...) and rocky descents I'd like to fly down just that bit faster.
Strengths: Awesome descents, with challenging climbs and guides who can actually ride all sections of trail fast! This place beats Morzine for pure, epic riding, and the hospitality was out of this world!! From the minute we arrived to when we left we felt totally at home. Emmas food was really good, Simons jokes were not so bad that you had to laugh out of politeness and the bars were local but cool!
Weaknesses: Being beaten by a dog down every descent, and I'll never watch Dirty Dancing without thinking of fruit again...... Oh, and Ricky Fitz rides like a girl.
Overall: All inclusive means exactly that, so it makes for the best destination for amazing riding on a budget. We are definitely out there for another holiday with the lads we met later in the year, just to get humiliated by Eoin and Simon on some climbs!
Strengths: Good workshop, fantastic riding, accommodation, Emmas cooking and everything else really!
Weaknesses: none!
Overall: The workshop had every tool under the sun from reamers to spare spokes. All inclusive really WAS all inclusive - I spent a total of 22euros all week! The riding was technical and fast, no faffing. Simon, Emmas and Eoin know what they're doing and also know how to get you to make the most of your week. I can't recommend them enough.
Strengths: Quite honestly the best technical riding i've ridden yet, including places like switzerland, the french alps and canada. enough to challenge even the most experienced riders. Great hospitality and food. Superb guides with great knowledge of the trails. great company too.
Weaknesses: unbeatable guides! dont believe for a moment that they're just lycra clad whippets and expect to wait for them at the bottom of the descents! I'm quite fearful of the arrival of Eion's long awaited new bike...you'll understand what i mean if you've seen the beaten up old thing he's been ripping up the trails on twice as fast as i thought possible up till now...
Overall: I had a fantastic long weekend, and just wished i could have stayed for longer! I will certainly be returning in the near future.
oh, and throw in your Lights for some night riding. i got in a short nightride one evening and it was out of this world! as if the trails aren't technical and scary enough as it is...
Strengths: Everything...The best biking holiday I've EVER been on.
Weaknesses: None!
Overall: I've been to lots of places (including Spain) and this is the best riding/holiday/time I have ever had. Great hosts, great food and much better accommodation than I'd been led to believe. I was excpecting quite basic but this was good.
The riding was fast, furious and fun. Absolutely amazing!
Strengths: Everything, one truly amazing mountain biking holiday!
Weaknesses: That you have to come home!
Overall: Simon and Emma work really hard to make every part of the holiday a superb experience, I could not fault anything. A 10/10 mountain biking holiday. Will be going back!!
'BREATHTAKING RIDING AND COMPANY! WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!'
Strengths: I really don't know where to begin! First off, the riding. Like a few people I've had the privilege of mountain biking in many parts of the world both in XC and downhill however nothing has compared for the allround riding package that Simon, Em & Co. can offer you! It is simply superb. The super tough endurance uphills build strength and the downhills make you cry especially if you're hard like me and ride a hardtail. ;o) Simon has a unique gift (and it loaths me to say it!) of encouaraging and bullying you into pushing yourself past your limits. On top of this he is genuinely a really nice guy who you can chat about anything too. The same goes for Emma, what a star! You couldn't ask for a cooler couple. Plus they have the same eclectic (i.e. sometimes sh!t) taste in music! I've been three times and plan to go plenty more and each time the guides they've had with them have been very cool too, always letting themselves open for a ribbing, the fools (Meme and 'my wwwirsts' - you know who you are!).
Weaknesses: Only your own. Oh, and my greed. Apparently.
Overall: Can't fault it, only wish I'd discovered this gem a couple of years ago!
Strengths: Not enough time to list them all! We all just had a wild, fast and fun time...
Weaknesses: none :)
Overall: I've been to Morzine and USA but this is the best of all. It's got the best of both worlds at Freeridespain - cheaper flights, technical and fast, cheap beer, great company but the trails and hosts are unrivalled! You just have to go. I'm definately going back :)
Strengths: Very well equipped and organised company with some character. The area where Freeridespain is based is truly incredible endless trails and views that will make the most hardened mtn and road bikers crumble in ore. Plus accomadation and evenings to match the levels of riding, fantastic!!!
Weaknesses: I cant think of any!
Overall: Awesome rider orientated holiday company make your own schedule don't follow the flocks and have a truly inspiring experience. Simon Emma are GREAT company and the holidays are exceptional value.
