'BRILLIANT SINGLETRACK, GREAT GUIDE AND SUPER FACILITIES'
Strengths: Shaun is a really decent laid back guy and knows the trails like the back of his hand. Awesome singletrack with breathtaking views. Monachil is a really friendly wee Village with great restaurants and Tapas places. Only ten minutes into Granada for Bars, Clubs etc and also sightseeing on rest day.
Weaknesses: None
Overall: We had a brilliant week and would definately return. The riding is first class and the whole set up means a zero stress, big smiles holiday! Can't wait to go back!
'THE BEST SANDWICHES EVER. TRAILS WERE PRETTY DAMN GOOD TOO'
Strengths: Amazing trails - loads of single track, great accomodation and a superb location.
Weaknesses: None. Seriously, none.
Overall: Sean was a brilliant guide - very knowledable about trails in sierra nevada and had a massive library of rides catering for all types of rider.
Strengths: superb trails, excellent weather, wonderful accomodation and the most fantastic location, the 'real' Spain and Scilla makes scrumptious sarnies !
Weaknesses: the air is a bit thin at 6000ft.
Overall: excellent destination, wonderful scenery, excellent accomodation, fantastic routes and a great guide with a sense of humour...
Strengths: Fantastic routes,never-ending singletrack, excellent guide and lovely accomadation
Weaknesses: not enough days in a week
Overall: The biking from day one just got better and better - even the short day into Granada with the urban downhill was fantastic. Shaun is an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about bikes, riding and the area. The routes were well thought out with many miles of single track descent but also a few technical climbs which were great fun. The accomadation was first class -a newly renovated house with plenty of space for everyone, and Csilla's lunches - where do I start ? fantastic !! I will have to go back !!!
Strengths: Shaun's welcome says it all - 'I'm going to take you out on some of best singletrack in the whole world' and he certainly didn't disappoint. Great service, great accommodation, great location and unforgettable trails.
Weaknesses: Yep, I know you'll think this review a bit biased if I say - there aren't any. Well there aren't any..... It is worth mentioning that Shaun caters for all standards of riders really well, but if you're a full on downhill star who can't climb for toffee - then you might be better off with a full gravity assisted option like the Alps.
Overall: Having just spent a second holiday with Ride Sierra Nevada, I felt compelled to write this review. Greeted at the airport bang on time and buzzing with enthusiasm at the thought of riding some of last years favourites (if we wanted) and taking in some of the new stuff that Shaun had not had time to show us last time, or had discovered since we last met – it’s great that the holiday location is only 30 mins away from Granada airport.
The accommodation was great, plenty of space and facilities for sleeping, eating and fettling (with one’s bike of course). The great thing about RideSierraNevada is that Shaun and Csilla recognise that it’s YOUR holiday – Shaun has all the ideas and options and you choose just what you want to do. The choices are endless though and you can just sit back and say ‘just take me out on some of best singletrack in the whole world'. From the breathtaking (in more ways than one) climb up to the Valetta mountain peak at nearly 3400m to another ride with a fantastically memorable quasi-urban finish in Granada – the range of trail options is endless. Also worth a mention is the amazing singletrack in the woods (that Greg Minaar is known to train in from time to time) – the name escapes me but you can get a taste for what I mean by doing a search on YouTube for ‘Sierra Nevada Singletrack’.
Well I guess you’ve read enough by now and are already reaching for the credit card and starting to check-out flights, etc – just to say you will not be disappointed in any sense if you book a holiday with RideSierraNevada!!
'THE BEST MOUNTAIN BIKING HOLIDAY I HAVE EVER HAD!!'
Strengths: Fantastic routes, climbs, subtle considerate guiding, incredible single track, breathtaking scenery, huge variety of challenges from rock gardens to narly, rooty woods to surfing on fine white gravelly dried up river beds. Great accommodation, lovely people - just bloody brilliant.
Weaknesses: None.
Overall: Very chilled from the moment you are collected at the airport by Csilla (who must be awarded a sainthood for her sandwiches alone)to the point at which you are guided up some of the steepest climbs I have ever been up. Everything is very understated but done with care, Shaun is a fantastic guide - constantly vigilant, making sure we are all OK but not fussing, pushing us further than we would normally go but obviously not putting us in any obvious danger (its not flower arranging after all). I have pushed myself physically and mentally more than ever before and I think I am a better rider for it and that is thanks to Shaun and of course Dorita the other excellent guide who came with us for one of the days.
We were there for three days and each ride was completely different with its own set of challenges - life is very dull when you get back home to normal life.
Unlike a lot of self catering accommodation Shaun and Csilla's place has plentiful supplies of tea, coffee, bread, butter, cereal and jam and loads of cutlery and crockery (there's none of that asking the landlady if they can spare a wine glass as six of you have been sharing a jam jar for 2 weeks nonsense). There are 2 balconies and three showers and a place to store your bikes -its perfect. The town itself has loads of restaurants and bars and there is a great little bar that does delicious meatballs and chips (and spinach pasties if you are a veggie)and toastadas which are like toasties only tasty and with fresh ingredients and it is about 30 yards from the apartment.
I am now in early negotiation with my wife to see how soon I can get back to Sierra Nevada, I thoroughly recommend it to everybody.
Strengths: Excellent trails, great guides, good food, awesome scenery, cool accommodation - everything, it's all top notch.
Weaknesses: None at all. Really. Just a shame I can't be there now..
Overall: Three days of fantastic riding.
Perfect flight times from Liverpool mean that you can travel out Friday morning, return Sunday night and still have three full-on days on the mountains. We were collected from the airport and looked after wonderfully throughout our stay until they dropped us off on Sunday night for the flight home.
Both Shaun & Durita are excellent guides - I was definitely stretched but never out of my depth. The rides are exhilarating, the scenery's fantastic and there's so much of it!
We toyed with the idea of booking accommodation in the town and riding our own trails but I'm so glad we booked with these guys instead. There was never a moment wasted with navigation, no wrong turns, just excellent riding with just the right amount of guidance.
The 'trail food' deserves a special mention. I normally pack a couple of energy bars and don't enjoy eating on a ride so this was a true revelation. Csilla's homemade fare is in a world of it's own - gourmet sandwiches you'll be very happy to have in your camelbak. I'd ask for the recipe buy doubt you could buy food that good in UK.
I'm definitely going back. For so many reasons this was an excellent experience. Heartily recommended.
Strengths: Lung busting climbs, fantastic descents and excellent singletrack, rock gardens, technical climbs -it's got it all. 'Evermore' and Mt. Valletta are two outstanding memories. Sean is an excellent guide who pushes you to your limits (and then a little bit more). Csilla's sandwiches (with lettuce) live up to reviews. Location, rides, and hospitality can't be faulted. Beer and tapas at the days end.
Weaknesses: My fitness.
Overall: Five brilliant rides in an excellent location led by a great and encouraging guide. Came back a better, fitter more confident rider.
Overall: My first riding holiday abroad, was not sure what to expect but was certainly not dissapointed. Some monster climbs followed by some amazing descent. All run and organized by friendly welcomeing people
