Strengths: You feel like a god (dess) riding this sort of fast, dry, singletrack terrain. Guiding style pitched perfectly - really relaxed but totally on it and invested in making your time the best possible. Granda defniately worth a visit on a rest day. Sandwiches the size of your forearm are the work of an angel.
Weaknesses: Your legs after 6 days chasing Shaun.
Overall: This is some of the best riding anywhere I've been in the world and definately the best guiding outfit I've expereinced. I came out for a weeks pre season xc training and return strong like bull.
Overall: Fabulous single track. Lovely people, they are really welcoming and fun. It's great riding with a guide who loves these mountains and is really passionate about the riding, and wants to share their enjoyment with you. Also they're patient with my slowness on the climbs but it was always well worth it when I got to the top. The rides were well thought out and immensely rewarding. Will be going back again, there's loads more to do. And how can you fault sunshine at new year, blue skies and the snowy mountain views. Great food, the cave accommodation is really special, Monachil is a sweet village with a chilled vive, and riding into Granada is great. A holiday where you can have both truly awesome riding and also enjoy some andalucian culture. And I like the film on their website www.ridesierranevada.com
Strengths: Well organised trip Great routes planned Fantastic scenery Fast descents Exposed, technical descents Big, lung-busting climbs Sunshine Great packed lunches Granada nearby for culture vultures
Weaknesses: None
Overall: Sean and Cilla were great hosts who organised a marvellous trip for our group. We've ridden lots of trails in England and Wales, but this one topped everything and is our finest outing so far.
Overall: Absolutley brilliant couple of days riding, RSN know the mountains like the backs of their hands, make top sarnies, and spread the pace and variety of the ride so that a beginner and someone with years of riding under their tyres enjoyed the same weekend equally. I can't recommend them enough...
Strengths: Excellent guiding. Good accommodation. Cracking riding.
Weaknesses: Not for folk who don't like riding up hills.
Overall: We had a top weekend out in Spain with Shaun and co. The weather was good and the trails were excellent. I must admit, I wasn't quite prepared for the amount of climbing we did but it was worth it for the trails back down again!
Strengths: (Was moved to write this when the Visual Euphoria video of Ride Sierra Nevada on Bikemagic reminded of a day's a ride there when a guide mate took us to Monachil and we hooked up with Shaun for a ride.)
Can honestly say was the single best day's riding I've done to date, beat France n other riding in Spain I've done - Shaun was a really nice guy and riding was genuinely epic. Lots of challenging technical singletrack, learnt real meaning of tight, steep switchbacks and natural mountain trails riding. Truly stunning scenery, like you're riding through Sergio Leone movie set.
Monachil was also best place we visited - refreshingly untouristy, friendly bohemian atmosphere and had best meal of the trip there with proper local Catalan food.
There is true open wilderness, buckets of quality singletrack there, and laid back 'apres ride' in the town.
Weaknesses: Gotta be reasonably fit and happy to enjoy it's technical trails - is that a weakness??? (I only joined him for a one day ride so I can't evaluate it as a paid holiday, but reckon it would be great with him as a guide)
Overall: The place seems to be a little known gem which deserves the big up as it's riding and scenery really are specatular and both Shaun and the town it's based in are very friendly and welcoming.
'MAJESTIC SCENERY. VAST RANGE OF TRAILS TO SUIT ALL ABILITIES'
Strengths: Amazing variety of trails. Its my third visit out here so about time I wrote about how much I love the riding here. I thought I'd seen it all but oh was I wrong. Riding in the summer means the very highest trails aren't snowbound and give access to a multitude of new areas to ride.
Living in a cave was definitely a new one for me and something I wasn't too sure about but in the heat of the summer these places are oases of cool.
The Mesquita beer (a local one). Packs a punch after a long descent - just the ticket!
The hire bikes may not ride like your ££££FS back home but they're more than enough to have you ripping it up on your first outing
Weaknesses: Distractingly stunning views may lead to spills.... A lame excuse methinks
Overall: I feel compelled to give a mention to what turned out to be my best ever days riding. Summiting Valeta (3394m/11135ft) via the highest tarmac in Europe and descending back to the village. We started early to avoid climbing in the midday heat and cheated with a minibus ride up to the ski resort (2200m). The altitude steals your breath in the latter stages of the climb. The view is awesome - out over the Coast, across the Med and into Africa. You can see the Atlas mountains floating just above the horizon. The descent was so varied and challenging its beyond a simple summary but the days stats were 57km round, c.1600m ascent, c.3100m descent. Epic.
Strengths: EVERY RIDE FINISHED WITH A BEER! GREAT RIDING ESPECIALLY THE DOWNHILL SINGLETRACK.
Weaknesses: THE ONLY WEAKNESS WAS MY USELESS ATTEMPT AT A SMALL LEDGE AND THE FACT IM CLINICALLY OBESE!
Overall: SHAUN AND CSILLA ARE FANTASTIC AND HELP IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE TO MAKE IT AN AMAZING HOLIDAY.AND SOME GREAT DIET TIPS FROM DURITA! WHICH I HAVENT FOLLOWED YET!
Strengths: Where to start - first class hospitality and guiding from Shaun and Durita out on the mountains and Csilla back at base providing the most scrumptious packed lunches. At the start of most rides we had an optional road climb, well worth the effort to take in the amazing scenery which constantly changes as you snake up the mountain roads. (oh and look out for Golden Eagles as you get higher up the mountain, magnificent!). Each ride was very different and offered something to suit everyone.
Weaknesses: NONE AT ALL!
Overall: Excellent riding, guiding, hospitality, accommodation, value for money etc, etc,
