Strengths: Light Great to wear + fantastic fit Plenty of ventilation Weighs next to nothing
Weaknesses: Hair like Kieth Flint from the Prodigy after wearing this lid. The pads inside the lid don't seem to soak up the sweat efficently.
Overall: Got mine in 2004 (Red & Silver) and it's been used every day in all weathers that mother nature could throw at you and still as good as new. For the 60 quid I bought mine for, I'd say it's worth it.
Overall: i bought this after using Met for many years and to sum up my view of this helmet, i just flogged it on ebay after 3 months and bought a 5th element. This helmet is very very heavy, around 70g more than my new Met and when you put them side by side, the Giro looks incredibly out dated. Helmet choice is a pretty personal thing and i'm certain you'll speak to people who swear by Giro but i know i'll never buy another one.
Strengths: This helmet is simply the best fitting helmet I have ever put on my head. There is no chance that my head will ever overheat (as it has with my old anexgore) because of the huge number of vents. In fact there are so many that you can see straight through from front to back. It looks as good as the E2 for a better price. I assume with Giros quality iot will do the job if I decide to test its crash capabilities.
Weaknesses: The wearing of a buff underneath is necessary in winter or you will freeze. I''m not sure how the helmet creates such bad cases of "helmet hair".
Overall: OK I am a sucker for fashion and spotted a few magazine reviews of this helmet. I ordered one in blue and trendy titanium, having tried an E2 for size. It has arrived, fits closer to the head than an E2 and is 35% cheaper! Not having owned a Giro helmet before I was shocked about being able to see straight through the helmet across the top of my head, but am very impressed by the cooling qualities the 27 (I think) vents provide. An excellent helmet for those that suffer from hot heads.
Strengths: Best fitting helmet I have tried. Didn't even notice that I was wearing a helmet.Doesn't shift at all when riding no matter what you are doing. Cool as anything and no chance of overheating due to the brilliant 'air conditioning' Looks GREAT!!
Weaknesses: None yet
Overall: My first Giro lid and I am well pleased. Brilliant, light and airy. Fits like a glove with no shift at all. Looks as good as the E2 but cheaper. You gotta love it
Strengths: I had the biggest crash in my 13 years of mountain biking in Greece 2 weeks ago. I attained some good looking scars on my knee, bust my finger and badly bruised my back (Luckily my Camel Back deflected the blow of rocks from my spine - wear one!) - but importantly when I lost it and landed on my head on rocks at about 30mph the helmet did its job. It dented the external membrane and cracked all of the structure on one side. I 've always ridden Giro and before my 2003 Animas I had a Gila for a number of years. I now have total brand loyalty. Plus I'm getting it replaced under the Crash replacement scheme that Giro offer for £30! Bonus.
Weaknesses: None
Overall: Looks good (in white anyway) and seriously - it saved my skull. Partly luck maybe but I'll stay with Giro from now on ta very much
Strengths: A good quality build. Sweet styling with numerous vents top and rear (no flat back) plus some tasty colours (mine's silver and red). Close fitting means it integrates well with your head ;)
Weaknesses: Err...mmm...helmet hair! Thats it.
Overall: At the end of the day, helmets are quite a personal choice and you should try out the full brand range to find the one that fits nice for you. The Animas fitted nice for me and I like it. Would have liked the E2, but to be honest it didn't fit as well and was a bit too pricey!
Strengths: Very comfortable, great fit, lightweight, secure helmet, reasonably priced for what you get.
Weaknesses: Despite the feelings of the other reviewers you can get hot in this helmet, and if you (like me) sweat a lot then the lack of a suitably sized pad to soak it up at the front will leave you with sweat running down into your eyes. This hasn’t been such an issue with other helmets I’ve owned but they’ve not been as comfortable etc so worth putting up with it. Would have had a 5 for performance if it could cope with me.
Overall: Good, weakness more down to me than the helmet
''05 version same as '04: Good looking Light Comfortable Helmet'
Strengths: The name, Can`t get much better can you. So light to wear, Plenty of vents, i don`t feel hot or itchi at all. Plenty of adjustment to fit your head properly.
Weaknesses: Some might say the price at around £69.99 Got mine for £53 inclusive of P&P But what price tag would you put on your head...
Overall: A well made light to wear Helmet, At a good price with plenty of ventelation. Get one, Well worth the money. I think the colour of the `05 models have changed a little to, Very smart.
Strengths: really good fit and well vented. Did what it was meant to do when i crashed and saved me from splitting my forehead open on a treestump.
Overall: These helmets look the biz and seem to get better year on year. After various crashes and accidents, i'm about to buy my 4th animas. I've thought about getting an E2, but i don't see why i should coz i've got no complaints about the Animas.
Strengths: Easy adjustability. Weighs next to nothing. Great fit.
Weaknesses: Pads are a bit 'lightweight'
Overall: Have previously spent £30-£40 on lids. Paid £60 for the Animas - the difference in price is reflected in the quality of the product. I'd buy another one but I don't have 2 heads.
