Strengths: This is a very comfortable riding top. You can wear it against the skin or over a base layer. The windfoil material on the front works like Gore wind stopper and keeps you from freezing in breezy conditions. The back of the sleeves and rear of the top are normal fleece and help stop any boil in the bag problems. You get thumb loops and a nice long tail at the back to keep out the draughts but the hem and sleeves are not elasticated. There is one zipped and 2 open top pockets in the back, a 3/4 length zip if you start to over heat and of course the sewn in repair patch.
Weaknesses: It''s not the top to wear when it looks like rain and it could do with a bit of protection around the shoulders to prevent abrasion if you wear a heavy back pack.
Overall: I like this top a lot. It's comfortable and when coupled with the Endura 3/4 length bib tights it will keep you nice and toasty in all but the coldest conditions. If you normally take a large the the medium should do the trick as they must breed 'um big in New Zealand. You might get caught for import tax so allow for that when working out the price and if you need to return anything get the correct forms for the post office to claim the import tax back.
Strengths: Well made and very comfy. Warm enough for all but the coldest days but with plenty of ventilation for when the going gets hot. Reflective piping for the dark.
Weaknesses: Not waterproof (but an ideal layer under a waterproof top). Other than that, it's great. Very good customer care.
Overall: One of the best buys I have made. Very good value. I actually look forward to freezing rides now!!
Strengths: Windproof - this is just wonderful; warm and cuddly.
Weaknesses: Not waterproof, but then again, it doesn't claim to be.
Overall: This is my favourite top. Nice roomy pockets at the back and a deep zip at the front for good ventilation when you've got going. The sleeves extend down over the top of your hands with a small hole for your thumb, excellent draughtproofing. It really is well designed and well made.
Strengths: Well made, works just how it should: windproofing on the front combined with a big zip is perfect for climbs and descents - no more boiling on the way up then freezing on the way down. Almost too warm in mild British winter (which is very reassuring if the weather turns).
Weaknesses: Gets a bit sweaty when not wearing a base layer
Overall: Top piece of kit - shame the only way to get hold of it is from New Zealand. This can be time-consuming and costly. And remember the sizing is up the creek - get 1-2 sizes smaller than usual.
Strengths: A pretty casual looking top with top performance and some excellent attention to detail. Spoke to GE by E-mail several times and very impressed with quick, friendly & helpful response.
Weaknesses: They really need to sort their sizing out. M & L at the mo should be about L & XL as most people find the sizes come up much bigger. Can be a pain is your flying stuff back & forth. You could also get clobbered for the import TAX though most don't.
Overall: Well I needed a top, read the reviews, took a deep breath,,, and got my wife to buy it for me as a prezzy. It really does do this biz though, even in light snow and drizzle it keeps the windchill off while the back allows moisture to wick away.
