'UNBEATABLE FOR THE PRICE'
Strengths:
TOTALLY RELIABLE WITH A FIVE YEAR LEAK PROOF WARRANTY. NO SQUEAKS,SQUEALS OR RATTLES.
Weaknesses:
COMPOSITE (i.e. PLASTIC ) MASTER CYLINDER HOUSINS SLIGHTLY FLEXES BUT UNNOTICEABLE IN NORMAL USE.
Overall:
SEEN THEM FOR £55 PER END BY MAIL ORDER, EVEN AT £75 I CAN'T FAULT THEM. CHEAPER THAN A SET OF QUALITY V-BRAKES BUT MORE RELIABLE. BUY THEM

'EFFECTIVE AND CHEAP'
Strengths:
No squeal, no rubbing and they work consistantly.
Weaknesses:
They progress smoothly but do reach a point where it feels as if they have suddenly locked solid. Also they can't work miracles and I've had a few scary moments when they haven't slowed me down as quickly as I would have liked - I'm 19 stone and at anything over 35 mph they don't cope too well - that said they cope better than anything else I've ever used.
Overall:
Very pleased - even if they did cost me £84.95 each; but for that my LBS fitted them as well.

'CHEAP AND BRILLIANT'
Strengths:
good stopping power,

wavy rotors!
Weaknesses:
like the other reviewers, dont really reach a lock out point. this is good for feathering tho, and wheelies etc work better.
Overall:
extremely well priced bit of kit, and work very well. no squeeks, and virtually rub free.

'GOOD VALUE - WORK WELL'
Strengths:
Very little squealinging, good solid progressive braking feel, pads have lasted well. Havn't leaked yet.
Weaknesses:
A little bit heavy, adjusting (old non-hayes mount model) is a pain. Not stick in your spokes stopping power like new hope minis.
Overall:
I like these brakes, they work very well if not brilliantly and don't seem to squeal all the time like a lot of other disc brakes I've used. If want dependable braking that won't amaze you these are for you.

'VERY GOOD INDEEL'
Strengths:
Good stopping power.
Modulation.
Looks.
Weaknesses:
None really.
Overall:
I was slightly doubtful about these, after mixed reviews, but I didn't want to cough up the 'very' extra cash for hopes.

Merlin Cycles offered a great deal including wheels, and I am not dissapointed at all. I cannot compare to others, as I have only used these discs, but it was a very worthwhile upgrade from v's.

They look nice, and are veryy efficient, with no squeal at all! Modulation is spot on, and you feel much more secure than with v's.

'PANTS'
Strengths:
None
Weaknesses:
Squeal like crazy, no power in the front, the rear shouts and vibrates really badly.
Overall:
I had the origional Julies on my old Cannondale SV700 which did nothing but leak. i thought these may be better but no, Maguras hate me. Will be swapping to Shimano Deores ASAP

'GREAT FOR THE PRICE'
Strengths:
Reliable, Strong, effective
Weaknesses:
Braking feels quite wooden when used very sharply
Overall:
Great Brake for it cheap price. I have used it for a couple months and it can handle anything but it does get excessively hot after constant braking

'SPOT ON ME JULIE'S'
Strengths:
Price, Easy installation, They offer large brake power when needed. No squeak, squeal or rattle nothing but good braking.
Weaknesses:
You will go faster because you know you can stop better. When you crash it will hurt more!
Overall:
If you have V's get some of these! Put your V's on the misses bike.

Braided tube for rear brake is nice but okay without.

'VERY GOOD FOR THE MONEY'
Strengths:
Good power and modulation from 180mm front rotor 160mm is more than enough for the rear. Also fairly easy to set up as they come assembled and bled and use hayes to IS adapters. Come with very nice looking wavy rotors.
Weaknesses:
A little chunky. Maybe not for beefcakes or down hillers
Overall:
I bought a pair of these from Chain Reaction Cycles for £120 after considering shimano M525’s and 4 pot XT. This my initial review. I shall update if I have any problems

For the money I can’t really fault these brakes. The power and modulation are good and there is no hint of grab. This might account for the “wooden” feeling that some people describe, but I prefer this to any sudden increase in braking like with Hayes Discs. The power is plentiful for XC and will lock both ends in most conditions, I run out of grip before stop. The power is also the same in wet conditions, which is where the modulation really helps.

The one thing that needs care is the set up of the brakes. They need to be bedded in carefully. I used a long steep tarmac road to this. You need to stop from about 25mph hard at least 30 times. Once you have done this they don’t squeal or drag. Before this they feel horrid and squeal when wet.

The lever bodies are composite (fancy plastic) and although this is initially slightly off putting they seem plenty strong enough. There is a little bit of flex in the lever bodies but you will not notice this on the trail, and my SD-5 levers on my other bike flex just as much.

Overall if you are getting your first set of disks and panic at the thought of spending £100 a brake on Hopes or Hayes, or are just on a budget these are for you.

Just pay close attention to the installation instructions in the manual !
