Strengths: The egg beater design is so easy to clip into (and out again if you put in enough shims). They shed mud easily and give a really confidence inspiring platform.
Weaknesses: The bearings are tiny and break up very easily despite packing around it with grease. I've used 3 replacement kits in 12 months. As an engineer i can tell you that they're not up to the job. Crank bros should re-design the pedal to use a larger bearing to take the loads better
Strengths: Solid yet light for the size, spare parts, simple action, lots of float, cleats bed in quickly, comes in a amazing box which just screams of quality, very strong. Come with four shims for cleat adjustment and different length screws. Work really well in the mud.
Weaknesses: A bit pricy at £82 and the replacement cleats are a bit steep as well, the large cage has been bashed a couple of times on the dragons tail. When you fit the cleats make sure you screw them on very tightly or you'll lose the screws like me (muppet in training)
Overall: I tried these as my first clipless pedal and simply loved them, they offer clipless efficiency/security and when the going really gets a bit too hairy, can be used/pedalled when not clipped in.
Strengths: Egg beaters with a platform. Nuff said.
Weaknesses: None.
Overall: I used Egg beaters, as well as Time, Shimano etc etc etc. I loved the Beaters, see my review, but occasionally wanted a platform. Here it is. Huge hint: forget your feelings for that nice Mr Bush, go to EvilBay and buy from America; £45 for brand new Mallet Ms.
Strengths: *Make my bike go like shit off a shovel! Not sure if this is common to all clipless pedals but I'm amazed at the power they genrate in pedalling action. *It sounds like the paint job is far more practical than the Mallet Cs. You can hardly see where I've banged mine on rocks. *Now that I'm used to them, the clipping in/out action is really easy.
Weaknesses: *Not sure about the looks. They seem a bit too big for my eyes. I think the Candy SL's look prettier. *Bearings seem quite stiff. *Platform's seem a wee bit slippy with my trainers when not clipped in, but seems OK with my riding shoes.
Overall: I wouldn't be without them now! I love 'em! My speed in climbing and over horizontal ground has improved dramatically. Can't compare them against any other type though as these are my first set of clipless pedals.
