Weaknesses: None, except seals untested but look to be good
Overall: Superb pair of forks work well, look gorgerous and pretty good price. Only downside you have to send them off to be serviced rather than be able do it yourself. That said of love mine
Strengths: Same comments as Steve Smith - plus they look great! Love the Launch Control feature. It's early days yet, but they are already super smooth.
Weaknesses: None yet, but still bedding in.
Overall: Excellent - although the price quoted above is wrong - the rrp is £439 - even at that, I think they are better value than Fox.
Strengths: Easy tuneable, real and effective front suspension, over trails in the roughest swiss alps it works smooth as butter. Also perfect in uphill sections.
Weaknesses: none so far
Overall: I really love that fork. I have a RC 36 hollowform and had a RC 36 Evo II, but nothing comes close to the RC40. No problems, smooth action, no rattling, straight forward drive and a hell of travel if you need it. Have it on an Intense 5.5 and would not change for anything.
Strengths: Good weight for the features and travel. Rides very well. Lots of adjustment parameters. Launch control lockout is great. Good price for a fork of this quality. Quiet, no knocking or sloshing etc.
Weaknesses: Nothing major really, but one nit pick is that you can end up moving the rebound setting when flicking the lockout, and I'm not sure you need the rebound so accessible to accidental adjustment.
Overall: I fitted these to give my enduro some more travel than the stock Marz. MXCs. So far, having ridden then on several hard rides, I have been nothing but impressed. Great feel, accurate steering even when the fork is busy soaking up bumps.
The launch control feature is very nice. I thought I'd prefer a bar mounted lockout like on older pace forks, but it's very easy to just slap the right hand leg to lockout, and let the fork unlock when you hit the rough stuff.
The seals seem to cope well with crap (which has been a problem on some pace forks before), although it's too early to tell how it will cope with prolonged filth.
The controls are good, although to be honest I have not really messed with them exhaustively as I'm not really a suspension geek.
If you are looking at a long travel fork for the 'heavy duty' end of XC riding give these some serious consideration.
I'll post a further review when I have completed a winter on them. I have graded reliability 3 as I just don't know at this point one way or another.
Strengths: Very stiff structure, far better than the 36/38s. Smooth spring Lockout very useful Travel Adjust does what it says on the tin
Weaknesses: damper did not work out of the box. once I had read the online support that was sorted quickly. Should be straightforward to lockout the forks for distribution and prevent this happening in transit
Overall: So far it's thumbs up. they track well, they're smooth, no more circlips and greaseports. They had a few submarining episodes in todays biking with no issues at all. I'm very impressed, so far!
Strengths: Weight, Features, Looks, Backup Support
Weaknesses: Travel Adjust, but once Pace e'd me back with the answer - problem solved!
Overall: I love these forks! Have had them for just over a month now and they've had quite a hammering in wet & muddy Wales and everyday riding around Epping Forest. Overall, I can't fault them (but as an upgrade from 80mm Marathons, who would?) for their performance and adjustability.
I was going to spend £550 on a pair of TALAS but when Wiggle were doing the RC40's for £399... kaching! Sold!
My only gripe was after one nasty day in the mud at Afan the travel adjust stopped clicking due to the crud that got in between the dial and the bearings underneath it. Pace replied to my query the next day and gave me all the advice required to sort it. I am slightly concerned at the longevity of the adjust feature, but hopefully it'll be fine.
Overall, a great fork for a great price and a worthy alternative to the TALAS that almost everyone else has on their bikes.
Strengths: nice look and design, high-quality craftmanship, low-friction tubes, Travel Express, intelligent Launch Control, externally adjustable rebound and compression, cult status on Mainland Europe
Weaknesses: It is said being bomberstiff > unlike mine, torsionally my simple 2002 MXR Marzocchi is not worse AT ALL, the 130mm setting impacts on the geometry a lot (Spec. Enduro S-works) thus needed to decrease it a bit. Magnesium drop-out might prove sensitive against corrosion.
Overall: I really like the coil performance and the 'intelligent' Launch Control for climbing. The damping works quite inconsistently on different days (!) though already changed oil. Factory spring (90kg) for me was a bit hard, had to change it for a softer one (70kg), now it is plush enough. Easy servicing at home, except for the wiper seals (seems to be custom-cut to fit into the top hole of the carbon carcass), which I find annoying to send it back for replacement. I would have expected more STIFFNESS. Probably, the lower price vs. Fox is justified by the somewhat lower value and performance. The damping of my old Marzo still beats the one of this, though non-adjustable. I am not sold...
Strengths: this fork transformed my enduro from the stock marzocchi. the lockout/ launch control is excellent for climbing and the shock action is super plush.
Weaknesses: After 1 month, a load of oil dumped from the compression adjust. I phoned Pace who reassured me this probably meant the fork had been overfilled. However, I thought the damping was going off. Just completed a week of hard wet weather riding - more oil leak, no damping and the lock out stopped working. Fork now to be returned to Pace - watch this space. I have been warned about Pace reliability and initially was going to get a TALAS or Minute 3; just hope I don't regret this purchase. The only other quibble is that the lockout would be much better on the handlebar as its to easy to knock the rebound adjust.
Overall: I really love these forks - when they work. I've had them 3 months and I hope this is just a glitch and that Pace sort this oil leak problem out. It seems no one else has had same problem from the reviews. However, if you want a totally reliable fork, this may not be the one for you.
Strengths: Look great, good value, smooth action, siff, bags of travel. Not Fox (which everyone else has). Pace customer service has been great.
Weaknesses: Shops seem to be unwilling to service, therefore a trip to Pace is needed. That means an extra £40 on postage. Stickers could be more durable.
Overall: Have had them for a year now with no real problems. Did have some oil seepage from the sprung leg in it's early days. Probably just an overfill of oil as it felt better afterwards. Reliability seems fine, but I did also have a Maz atom 80 for nearly 5 years with only 2 full services. Am very impressed.
