Strengths: Big days out riding, and real riding at that, technical descents earnt by climbing, rewarding, quiet trails that need to be thought about, switchbacks, roots and rocks, open high pasture, alpine meadows and loamy forest singletracks. Great base with great guides and the best food ever!
Weaknesses: If you want to uplift all day and sit your fat ass on your skill compensating machine go play with others.
Overall: Probably the best trails I have ever ridden with the most skilled guides. Their in depth knowledge of the area guarentees superb riding for all levels of ability in a very scenic part of France. Will be going back (again)
Overall: The best biking trip I've ever done by a country mile. Super friendly people, great food and the best trails in the world. All our group are going back again.
'IF YOU LIKE LONG UPHILL RIDES,THIS IS YOUR PLACE!'
Strengths: nice scenery
Weaknesses: too much climbing for not enough descent!
Overall: if you liketo ride uphill a lot for not too much reward.like trails so techy that everyone, guides included have to get off and push, riding trails at 2mph.if you like all that this could be your place
Strengths: Great trails Great hosts and trail guides. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Really nice home cooked food and plenty of red wine.
Weaknesses: none
Overall: This was the first guided holiday I've been on and must say it turned out to be one of the best holidays I've ever been on. Guides where great, taught us quite a bit, if anyone had a problem with a section we'd stop and session it if we wanted. Location is excellent and fairly easy to get to. Evening meals were great, never tried so many different types of food in one week. Packed lunches were brilliant, plus always had 2 lunch stops so never went riding on to full a stomach. Quite a bit of climbing to do but it just made you appreciate the downs more, plus certainly feel fitter.
Strengths: The riding is great, Sam, Tom & Joe have got a great variety of trails laid out. Food is fabulous and Lyndsey and Sam are great hosts.
Weaknesses: Just can't get hold of enough cheese on the rest day!
Overall: If you go out to the Alps only once, go with BikeVillage. My legs ache after a week but I just wanted to ride for far longer. The trails make for great riding, some tips are thrown in for the trickier sections and when you get back down to the valley floor you can just chill out in the garden with a few drinks. I felt like a member of the household rather than a paying guest. Throrougly recommended - I look forward to my next visit.
Strengths: Superb! Great price, great food, great accomadation and probably the best riding you'll ever come across
Weaknesses: Couldn't fault it myself. I guess the accomadtion might not suit your needs if you're looking for a 5* corporate hotel with gym, pool, concierge etc... but it was excellent, the farm house is lovely and sam and lyndsey go out of their way to make you feel comfortable
Overall: Absolutely superb. Bike Village know all the best trails in the Les Arcs/Les Plagnes region and they are quite simply the best I've come across. Its not the Downhill only holiday that you'd take 10inches of travel and a motocross lid for, its a singletrack holiday where you'll ride the best and most technical singletrack you could ask for. You can still make a DH holiday, there are DH courses at Les Arcs, but you'd miss out on Sam's excellent guiding and you'll never find singletrack like this again.
Strengths: Brillant singletrack, inspiring riding, amazing food and all in a relaxed atomsphere, highly recommended and personally I will be going back.
Weaknesses: Some of the trails are not that beginner /novice friendly, which is something to bear in mind if you not that happy on technical trails.
Overall: I can't recommend them highly enough, you will not regret using this company to get the most out of your Alps holiday.
Strengths: Superb single track, food, guides and location.
Weaknesses: None.
Overall: The best there is at the game of mountain bike holidays. I have been 3 times in the last 4 years and sam is still finding the best new single track. Went this year with my girlfriend who was a total novice. She loved it! And we climbed over a 1000m a day. Something for everyone. The ride to Italy is brilliant.
Strengths: Fantastic guides, fantastic riding, fantastic accomodation and food, mad kitten! And the best area to ride around. Just FANTASTIC!!
Weaknesses: None. Do agree with Chris. If you want crapy corporate then go somewhere else. This is fun and very friendly
Overall: This was my first MTB holiday and OMG it was brilliant. This have been the only holiday I've been that I wanted to repet before it had ended. I've now booked for two weeks next year and can't wait to get back. If you get the chance this has to be on your list of things to do.
'BIKING HOLIDAY PERFECTION - DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE BOX'
Strengths: Incredible trails - tremendous variety from fast 'n fun to downright brown trousers - and a seemingly endless supply of new ones. If you think you'r a good biker this will redefine your whole outlook! Sam, Lindsey and Niall are fantastic hosts, the farmhouse in Landry village is a superb chilling out spot and the food is ace. Favourite trail? - very difficult as there are so many of exquisite quality. Silver Darling and Sketchy Dismount are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression!
Weaknesses: Not a luxury chalet (but a comfortable and very pleasant base for all that) and the riding tends to be "challenging" for novices (although they are excellent at looking after less able riders and I have seen people develop skills in a couple of weeks that have taken me years!)
Overall: Having been to Spain and America as well I have to say that the quality of the trails and riding is as good as it gets anywhere. This is now an annual must do for me with five trips in the last four years and a fortnight booked for 2005 already. You can do the Alps more cheaply with a DIY chalet package but the hosting and guiding available here is priceless.
