Strengths: Great guides, good range of well-maintained bikes. Awesome scenery, and a ride to work up to - The White Church. Two of you together can borrow kit and just make your own way. Lively town with plenty to eat and drink. Guides will adjust rides and routes to suit your level.
Weaknesses: Too hot for epic rides in peak season. Hotel and kit are 10 minutes walk apart. Caters for all levels, so if you're super keen, alone and all the beginners want to come, you may be frustrated.
Overall: Enjoyed it so much I went two years on the trot! Choice of hotel with pool or cheaper accomodation at Nick's, right on the beach, with the bikes and boats. Families are catered for - with 3 or 4 levels of kid's clubs, so you don't feel guilty at enjoying yourself :-)
Weaknesses: No biking for young kids. Not enough hours in the day to do all the activities!
Overall: Another excellent holiday fortnight. Bit of rain this year meant more biking :-) Tried out the optional evening trips this year. The moonlight talk on Stars on the deserted beach was great, the wine flowed and we relaxed flat out and gazed up as the night-sky was explained to us. Also tried the scuba diving and marine life talk, which produced some interesting objects! The octopus didn't want to be watched and I'm still not convinced we weren't being wound up about the sea cucumber!?
'GREAT HOLIDAY, BUT MAYBE NOT SET UP FOR MTB FANATICS'
Strengths: Great accommodation. Nice town with plenty of choice of restaurants and bars, not dead at night but not too hectic either. Great scenery. Good range of non-MTB activities (watersports).
Weaknesses: Riding is mainly fireroad/road - not necessarily a weakness, but possibly not the best if you prefer singletrack. Bike fleet is OK but not exceptional. Guided ride timetable is a bit odd - early morning and late afternoon beginner-level rides, with the longer rides right in the middle of the day when it's hottest.
Overall: I can't criticise the holiday overall, but came away with the impression that they are much more set up for the watersports enthusiast who wants to do a bit of biking as well rather than the dedicated mountain biker and would look elsewhere for a biking-specific holiday in future. The bikes all have Deore-level kit and the only bikes with disc brakes when we were there were the guides' ones, despite the pictures and writeup in the brochure implying that most of them have discs. We were also told that the "book-a-bike" service (where if you're very tall/small you can reserve an appropriately-sized bike for the week) isn't available any more, despite it being in the brochures. This wasn't a problem for us, but could be if you're at the extremes height-wise and there are a lot of other bikers booked in while you're there. One of the guides was good, but the other didn't seem as keen or knowledgeable (quote of the week - "You don't grease seatposts, they're not a moving part").
