'SUPERB STATE-OF-THE-ART CRANKSET. XT QUALITY AT LX PRICES.'

Strengths:
Very well designed and the looks are superb. This I think is better styled than the XT Chainset. This LX has every bit as good performance as XT but cheaper. Excellent dedicated bottom bracket with outboard bearings that give enormous stiffness whilst being well sealed.

Weaknesses:
None....except that the chainrings are like the XT ...great slick gear change but not long lasting, which is the way for all Shimano chainrings.

Overall:
This is the best Chainset and dedicated bottom bracket that you can get for the price.
There is no point in buying the XT model as this is the same but better looking and only a few grams heavier.

'QUALITY'

Strengths:
All the benefits of XT but cheaper. Really simple to fit. Looks great and picks the chain up faultlessly. Super stiff and squeek free.

Weaknesses:
None so far.

Overall:
After paying £69.99 from chain reaction cycles I almost feel like a thief....nothing comes close to this in terms of performance and price. And, as an added bonus, you'll have it fitted in less than ten minutes.

'BRILLIANT. BUY ONE.'

Strengths:
Light enough, cheap, good looking, BB bearings seem indestructable, amazingly simple to fit with the correct tools. Adjustable chainline if you need it.

Weaknesses:
Shimano alloy chainrings wear out fast

Overall:
Top value and hard to fault. Replace the middle ring with a steel Deore one and the outer with a Middleburn when they wear out and then it's virtally maintainace free.
(I only gave a 4 for reliabilty because of the fast wear on the chainrings)

'A STRONG, RELIABLE (SO FAR) CHAINSET FROM SHIMANO'

Strengths:
Aesthetically pleasing, Easy to set up, Strong, Reliable, Not easy to scratch.

Weaknesses:
You have to buy specialized tools for £15 to set up.

Overall:
Ive had major problems with bottom brackets, clicking etc-drives me insane (got a sneaking suspicion half the reason is halfords quality of mechanics)Anyway, i bought this chainset a week ago due to the fact it has an integrated bottom bracket. Apart from the fact you have to spend an extra £15 buying specialized tools from shimano it seems like a descent bargain-only cost £70 from chainreaction cycles. Took around 5 mins to put together and your of. I also bought the new lx derialleur and together the whole drivechain runs smoother than ever before. Ive taken the chainset down Innerliethan bike track-lots of hitting of rocks etc however it seems to take alot to cause scratching and because the paintworks metalic anyway its basically unnoticable. All in all a brilliant attempt from shimano!!!

'DAMN GOOD'

Strengths:
excellent strength, good looking, cost is nice, no diff to XT but weight (if youd notice) and colour.

Weaknesses:
none that i have found as yet,

Overall:
IM A HALFORDS CYCLE SPECILAIST!!!! and as for other stores thats their problem :D personally im gr8, never bodeged a bike in me life :D i lvoe em. anyhows, i like the Lx this yr. usually stay with XT but after a review reading i chose this and couldnt be happier.
