Strengths: Stops water/crud getting into the headset. Hasn't fallen off yet.
Weaknesses: It's waterproof material which fastens with velcro. Unbelievably expensive (seen them for £4.99!)
Overall: I'm sure I've heard that a cut up innertube can do the job just as well... One for bike tarts (err, I only got mine as it matched the colour of my bike! oops!)
Strengths: Keeps out the majority of dirt & water, stays working, very easy to fit, adds very little friction compared to alternative solutions, and looks better.
Weaknesses: No weaknesses for the money. Could do with a more hi-tech version to keep out even more water and stuff.
Overall: You can't comlain at three quid! What else can you get for that nowdays? You don't have to keep replacing them anyway.
I've been using one for a good few months on my road bike (without mudguards). My headset's a bit knackered so I'm trying to prolong its life. I can tell this thing works because I use white grease...
Overall: Brought it when I got my new bike, cause it looked flash. Keeps the poo out as long as you remeber to clean under it every so often. However it is a piece of velcro on sale for 4 quid so....
Weaknesses: Keeps crud in just as well if not regularly cleaned
Overall: Looks quite nice, doesn't add much weight (?). Could be easier just to quickly clean the whole area every week rather than forget to clean it out at all because of a the seal leading to nice drop of grinding paste held well in place.
Strengths: Nice colours, stops mud and water and looks good on the bike.
Weaknesses: lets some water in when it gets very wet and acts a but like a sponge on the bearings, so you have to take it off after really wet rides, not much of a deal really.
Overall: Great for only £2.99 just remember to take it off and let it dry after a very long wet ride.
