Strengths: ETA dead easy to use and the fork is excellent value and reasonably light weight
[Update 03/04/07] Great forks, relativley cheap
Weaknesses: Taking a while to break them in and the manual is pretty vague as is the tech support from the importers (WINDWAVE,can't seem to get more than 85mm total travel on a 105mm fork and they havn't a clue why eventhough the oil level is set to thier recommended level and the air pressure depleted.
[Update 03/04/07] none really
Overall: As i said i'm still bbreaking these in so we shall see but generally happy with them. If you want to remove th eta/spring for an oil change a shimano cassette tool fits perfectly and is what Marzocchi recommends for some other types of forks
[Update 03/04/07] broken in now and very plush, glad i bought them and i would reccommend them to anybody.
Strengths: Good forks, easy to fit and setup. Reasonably plush and responsive. ETA lockout a good feature.
Weaknesses: Well.. they broke, then were stolen. No external rebound Couldn't get full travel from them, wouldn't hit the last 15mm or more.
Overall: Compared to the RS Tora 318s I got to replace them I don't miss them one bit. I bought them for the claimed superior reliabilty only for an internal bit to bugger up after a month (which lead them on a tour of the country for the next month and a half). As long as the durability on RS forks stays at the good standard it is now, its hardly worth buying a less well featured 'zocchi is it?
Strengths: Extremely plush. by far the best upgrade i've made for my scott comp. Tight predictable steering, loves the bumps, no slop and from reviews i've read as reliable as anything out there. Eta's wicked seams more rebust than full lock out. Set them and ride (touch wood)
Weaknesses: Non so far only had em a month but seam better than any rock pox, magura's (for the money) or mantipoos i've tried. Perhaps weight but for the £ (i paid £55 on ebay 105mm 2004's)shouldn't complain, you don't feel it and prob accounts for their notorious reliability so?
Overall: These Zocchi's are my first and can see bo reason to change (touch some more timber). They've transformed the ride both on and off road, thanks to the eta, absorbsion/rebound and stiff handeling. Only reason to change would be if got vast salary increase and spent some silly money on fox's, but then i'd prob be getting a top bike. Can't recomend highly enough for the cash!!!!!!
Strengths: * Smooth controlled suspension movement, even though I'm still breaking them in. * Solid, bombproof feel - Stiffer than Psylos and better suspension feel than any comparable Rockshox I've ever tried (Psylo, Judy, Duke). * Easily adjustable air preload. * ETA lock down is quicker to use than a travel adjuster, and still gives 30mm travel for climbing. * Relatively light for such a cheap but solid fork. * Like a slimmed down version of the Z1
Weaknesses: * Won't fit the Marzocchi Accerbis fender. * Slightly rough finish on the internal holes in the crown.
Overall: The best fork you can get for this kind of money, especially if you shop around and get it cheap like at Chain Reaction Cycles. Stiff, reliable, plush.
Strengths: Very smooth, i'm under 10st and it rides the bumps beautiful. Has the guy above got the pressure right? I find the ECC lever ok, had no problems with it. If it was too big it would just snag and too solid you might bend the mechanism inside, sometimes these things are disigned to break under certain amounts of pressure to prevent bigger damage. Got mine for £150 - a bargain
Weaknesses: No pump so pls £30. On lockout and heavy breaking the brakes do act a touch strange
Overall: Buy them, and save yourself a few hundred quid n the process. Great for XC.
'EXCELLENT VALUE, LIGHTWEIGHT AND VERY PRACTICAL.'
Strengths: These forks are an absolute bargain. 100mm of travel and a lockout for less than £200! The ECC cartridge is very useful for climbing. These forks are very plush and are spot on for XC riding.
Weaknesses: I hardly ever seem to get full travel from them, usually no more than about 80mm. I have only ever knowingly bottomed them out twice, once was a nose heavy landing off a 7 foot drop, the other time was hitting a ditch going down a 45 degree slope. There is no pump supplied with them, which adds around £30 to the price if you don't already have one. The disc mounts on mine are not aligned perfectly (although this might be down to the fact that I was hit by a car), but it is still good enough to be able to use discs. The forks are also a bit flexy, but still good for the price.
Overall: You cannot go wrong with these forks. If you have a low budget (you can get them for about £165) and are an XC rider, these are the forks for you.
'NICELY ENGINEERED BUT STICKY ACTION AND POOR ECC LEVER'
Strengths: Great Marzocchi engineering, strong and light
Weaknesses: Action not plush enough!!!!!! Forks only moved on big hits and no bob climbing so no need for ecc! Plastic lever for ECC was too weak and had several problems with intermittent ECC action.
Overall: Reading the other reviews its hard to believe we are talking about the same fork!!! I guess maybe I had a duff pair, way too sticky action did not move on smaller hits. Having said that I am a total Marzocchi convert and have a pair of atom sport with coils which are super plush. Had the MXC's not been stolen changing from air to coils would have solved the lack of plushness.
Strengths: Fit and forget Pluuuuusssshhhh! General build quality VFM
Weaknesses: Alloy crown corrodes - have to keep polishing with autosol!! Plastic lockout a bit wimpy NO SHOCK PUMP
Overall: I just chucked these on my bike and havent touched them in a couple of hundred miles! No complaints there. Be careful with the power washer as it blew off the decals on one leg...my fault entirely.Take awhile to bed in - surely a good sign for reliability. Had 3 pairs of Manitous before,....never again as all 3 cracked in the same place and they wanted £140 for a new fork leg casting...and they didnt keep the crap out either...MXC ECC = £170 Easy decision then!!!!Only real gripe with Marzocchi is no shock pump, but I guess for the price you cant have everything. Final comment...from now on Marzocchi wil be getting my hard earned when it comes to fork purchases in future provided the standard stays as it is - there aint nothing out there that compares at the moment!!!
Strengths: Loads of travel, at a cheap price. Light! - when I swapped this fork with my old one, and tried to pull a wheelie, my front end went stright up, almost throwing me on my back! Lock out (also a weakness...) stops the rebound, but lets the fork compress. Thus, when cycling on road, it makes a more streamlined figure, and lower profile. I found it let you put more energy into the backs of your legs. Aluminion steerer.
Weaknesses: Lock out: the switch is very catchable on your front mud catcher (if you have one). Try and pull a x-up, and when you land, you find the lock out is magicly on. Also, when lock out is on, my front (v) brake locks onto the front wheel. Therefore, I rarely use the lock out. If you want to do a longer cycle when you do use the lock out though, my recomendation is to buy yourself a army tin opener (they are very thin, small pieces of metal. about 1mm thick, and 2cm long), and attatch it to your fork leg, using some inner tube to rap round it, keeping it in place. Too linier?... Maybe it's just my settings, but I find the "bounce" you get from it is a bit low, also due to the absence of coils. There again, this is also a good point...
Overall: Very good fork, but my advise is to buy the cheaper version (£165 rrp), without the lockout unless you really want it. Overall though, very good, reliable fork. Pumping up fork legs is done with ease, in about 5 minutes. If you happen to have lost the black caps covering the valve, use bic biro pen tops. They fit PERFECTLY, and the biro only costs you a few pennies (although you may have to buy 5 pens before one fits...)
