Overall: With the necessity of the grips and the lock jaws, the initial cost of these is quite high (£18), although you obviously only need to buy the lock jaws once. Once fitted, there is no movement at all and it eliminates the necessity of sticking them on with hairspray/glue, etc. The other clear advantage is when you need to remove them; a quick spin of the bolts with the supplied allen key and they're off.
After a hard winter, I've noticed that the surface is beginning to wear out in patches, although they still offer enough purchase.
All in all, a very comfortable grip which will never spin or detach itself, although could be more hard-wearing.
Strengths: Simplicity Don't slip once bolts tightened Easy to remove when the time comes Excellent levels of grip
Weaknesses: Not exactly cheap Look like they will be quite fast- wearing
Overall: Only had these on for four or five rides but very impressed so far. Been out in the pouring rain for a couple of hours and no slippage. Fitting and removing is really easy, so long as you have a 2.5mm allen key. Most shops have the grips and lockrings as a value pack for about 15 pounds at the moment, as you only have to buy the rings once if there ever was a time to pick up a set it's now. If the Ruffians don't suit there are several other patterns available.
Weaknesses: too long you cant fit much on your bars have to put stuff on the bend so you dont get full peformance from brake levers cant cut them down use a very good fiting key or the screw head rounds of like a slag and then you cant get them off
Overall: do not buy these grips buy usuall grips lock ons are too much hassle
Strengths: Wont move, unlike my old grips which fell off every 5 minutes. Very easy to get off, undo the bolts and they slide off.
Weaknesses: The grip wears down too easily. Ive had mine 2 months, and already need to replace them at 10 quid a time.
Overall: Very grippy, and easy to get off - no nail varnish or glue needed, but they come at a price, of 5 quid a month, but i ride my bike 6 days out of 7
Strengths: Dont slip on bars Grippy surface Swapping controls is damn easy
Weaknesses: grip doesn't last long
Overall: these CAN be cut down! i have spoken to people with narrow riser bars who needed to cut them down. as long as the remainig alloy collar is done up tightly, the grip stays put.
these grips solved my long running problem of slipping grips, and made upgrading shifters and brake so much easier!
Strengths: DOESNT SLIP!!!!!! NO SPRAY PAINT!!! Clamps look gorgeous, other types of rubbers available for universal fit
Weaknesses: do wear a bit quick and you only have to replace the rubbers remember,
Overall: These are excellent value, ppl moan coz they cost 18squid, £8 over the top of normal grips well woopy s*@t, how unreasonable for a great answer to an ongoing problem - great value and look fanatstic
Strengths: Dont slip Makes bar changes a doddle Comfortable Simple
Weaknesses: Dont fit bent bars like the Roox FPS, and my mate had great fun fitting them to his cut-down XC riser bars! (they are a bit wider than average)
Overall: If you are running wide bars, or even normal ones, these are great. They keep your grips on the bar, and mean no more messing about with hairspray/washing up liquid/nail varnish etc. to keep grips on. A bit on the expensive side, but you can use the clamps again....
Strengths: Easy to attach/remove No glue/hairspray Comfortable And finally "grippy" a definate advantage!
Weaknesses: Expensive for grips even if you exclude the price of the bolts about £9 for replacement grips.
Overall: I've had these grips on my bike for a while now and have had no problems with them. The rubber file pattern for the gripping surface is perfect giving you grip but not ripping your hand apart at the same time (unfortunatly this wears down faster than you would possibly expect) while the internal portion is a harder compound to keep the grip in one place on your bar and the right shape! The lock-on clamps are great i have had no horizontal movement in (i.e. off the end of the bar) or by twisting. Some people have said that they have found these grips to be two long with there clamps this has not been a problem for me as they fit my Kore freeride bars (26") perfectly leaving plenty of space for shifters and brakes before the bend. The end plugs which came with mine are a bit large and if i ever get round to it will replace them with some smaller ones, but apart from that no real complaints.
Just in case people wonder a pair of grips with their lock-on clamps and end plugs weigh about 130g.
