Weaknesses: Shimano has a very bad reputation for its rings its a bland looking crank
Overall: If you ride downhill and jump and buy these then you are a twonk as these are designed for trail riding and for the money you could bad your self a good set of race face cranks. These came on my specialized fsr pro was a bit dunious about them but they ride just fine.
Strengths: Seem to be fairly durable, they don't flex for me that I notice and I'm about 15stone! I guess they're lightish as well for reasonably priced kit.
Weaknesses: No real problems that I've had.
Overall: I have had these on my XC bike for about 18 months and have done me very well. They havn't got a beating unlike a few people reviewing seem to have given them, but it should be remembered that they are XC cranks! I've put a lot of miles on them and taken them off to change over to different frames and rings numerous times with absoloutly no problems at all. The big ring did get changed last week, and was pretty horribly worn, but the shifting on it was still pretty well behaved but I put an Evolve ring on there just to see if it will make a difference...
Overall, no nonsense perfectly acceptable XC cranks, and the LX bb of the same age seems to be going fine also.
Strengths: Light weight, strong, Stiff. Can be had for £50 from some mail order companies.
Weaknesses: The grey coating is easily scratched and rubs of on your shoes, but what the hell?
Overall: Brilliant and long lasting, light and extra good value if you can get them cheaper: Beware though, Make sure you get the correct lenght B/B: A standard (square taper) one should be replaced witha splined one that is 8mm longer...
Strengths: errrrrrm aaaaahhhhh errrrrr none there shimano
Weaknesses: flexy flexy
Overall: the splines ripp out they creak and if you use a chain guide like am mrp there aint enough thread on the bb to hold it buy truvativ isis at the same cash
