Strengths:
Few parts to go wrong. Reasonable stopping power.
Weaknesses:
My baby son pressed the lever while I had the front wheel off. The pistons came out and refused to be pushed back (even with considerable leverage from screwdriver). I took the brake apart and used a g-clamp to push them back in but they did the same thing next time the lever was pressed. They have been sent to Magura UK and have been there for several weeks now.
Overall:
Reasonable brakes at the price but I would not buy them as separate components.

'Better than my old centre pulls. Yes centre pulls!!'
Strengths:
Good stopping power, no screeching.
Weaknesses:
Plastic levers
Overall:
This is the first set of disc brakes I have ever had (came on my new bike). I did have to re-bleed the front brake as it felt spongey but after that it seems fine. This I think needed doing due to the fact that the fluid level was a bit low in the reservoir and after travelling home laying down in the back of the car this allowed air in the system. They certainly are more powerful than the center pull brakes on my ten year+ old Diamond Back Ascent, but the front still struggles to lift the back wheel off the ground. Still it does mean it won't throw me over the bars. Not had them long enough to say about relibility and not ridden any other bikes with discs to compare them with. So good all round in my views apart from the plastic levers.

'unreliable and a serious saftey risk, save up and get a hope'
Strengths:
well, it performed well when on the road in dry conditions
Weaknesses:
i had one fitted as standard on my new raleigh fidhbed. it failed twice by leaking from the caliper without any explanation and three times from the lever mastercylinder. the whole system was replaced and it still leaked and this was from mostly roadriding. it didnt suffer any harsh treatment
also, when mine got wet, the mastercylinder piston refused to return so the front wheel couldnt be moved. this happened on both the old and new system. also (yawn) the cheap plastic levers always felt spongey resulting in a cheap feel and loss in performance due to flex in the lever
Overall:
although magura uk were very helpful, i would not trust magura disks again, the hs11 on the bask performs flawlessly but the julie on the front is more hassle than its worth. my advice is to do what i did and save up to get a hope 02. it feels great and performs excellentley.

'Excellent'
Strengths:
Controllable, consistant, solid stopping power.
Weaknesses:
Mine came with the 4-hole rotors/hubs, possibly hard to upgrade, should I want to, that is.
Overall:
These brakes are superb. Much better than my old Grimeca System 7s, and so much more consistant than my old LX Vs. Mine came with the alloy lever, and have withstood some hard offs, already, so I'm impressed. These were fitted as standard, but for the 75 notes, they represent a top buy for the money.

'CHEAP AND CHEERFUL DISC BRAKES'
Strengths:
These came fitted as a free upgrade on my new bike so i haven't had the opportunity to test them against any other system, but they work far, far better than the v's on my old bike. Being able to stop in all conditions is a fantastic confidence inspiring way of speeding up your riding. If you know you can slow down quicker, you start riding quicker.
Weaknesses:
They squeal horribly sometimes, but i believe this also happens to a lot of other disc systems aswell.
Other reviewers have commented on the fragility of some of the components but they seem plenty strong enough for me.
As they are an open system you can't change the lever bite point. Only a problem if you have smaller or larger hands than what constitutes 'normal'. I've learnt to adapt to it though.
Overall:
If you have full suspension, discs seem to be more of a neccessity than a luxury. These represent good value, no nonsense stoppers.

'NOT BAD - BETTER THAN V'S'
Strengths:
Price & stopping power. No screeching (to date) which has happened on my other bikes discs. Progressive power can be applied giving confidence when riding.
Weaknesses:
Levers look and feel very weak. Have had trouble finding a replacement pad.
Overall:
I have not experienced any trouble with these discs themselves. They do the job I ask of them and have survived a couple a big spills dispite the fragile looks.

'WHAT A DIFFERENCE'
Strengths:
Offer good modulation, far better than 'V's. Uniform braking with no wheel wobble. No tweaking needed.
Weaknesses:
Hmmm.
Overall:
These were fitted to a hire bike which is the first disk brake set-up I've used in anger. Although they were still bedding in when I handed the bike back (after a weekends use) they were getting better all the time. I'm a convert to disks now.

'GREAT STOPPING POWER '
Strengths:
Give you great confidence that you can rely on them to haul you to a stop when needed..
Just set them up and leave alone ...fantastic.
You realy notice how good disc brakes are in the lovely winter months !!
Price is excellent for what you get.
Weaknesses:
Changed the resin levers to the alloy ones and improved the feel instantly.
Overall:
I love 'em to bits...allow them time to bed in and then enjoy.
Wouldn't leave home without them..lol
There are better out there but are you prepared to pay the costs to get them..these are perfect cost/performance products.
