Strengths: Great design, tailored to allow free movement when on the bike. Superb length "tail" that covers with out hindering off the back of the saddle movement. Event fabric really is as good as it claims.
Weaknesses: Will wait and see how long the water repellent coating lasts, and then how easy it is to re-proof.
Overall: For a long time now I have settled with the idea that in mountain biking you are never going to find a jacket that can shift the perspiration that one generates. I had accepted that with my last Goretex Paclight jacket that after 20 minutes or so my gloves would start to fill with the sweat running down from my sleeves. Thankfully a number of gorse and pine tree abrasions meant that the time had come to buy a new jacket. I like Endura stuff, so I thought I'd give the e-vent fabric jacket a whirl. Yesterday I rode the black run at Kirroughtree through sleet and rain at a temperature of about 2 degrees. I know the jacket must have been working exceptionally well as I didn't notice any: draughts, leaks, running sweat or any hinderence to my riding. On return to the car park after two hours strenuous riding, I was astounded to find the inside of the jacket bone dry! I'm thrilled to have found a jacket fabric that lives up to the claims (which goretex never seemed to deliver). Highly recommended.
Strengths: Good close fit so great for my roadie rides too, very comfortable with decent length arms. I sweat like the proverbial pig and despite a rain drenched Sunday at Afan the jacket kept everything out and I didn't boil at all. Certainly in the top 3 bits of cycling kit that I own.
Weaknesses: Cuffs could be better (just being picky) and the Pace version is £50 cheaper but you can only buy this on line and can't try it on (and they only do grey).
Overall: I would certainly buy another one without any hesitation. A cold rainy Welsh Sunday in November saw us going out again after our first loop when everyone else had given up as we were still warm and dry thanks largely to this jacket. Grafham Water Cycling have currently got em at £135 so buy one quick!!!!!
Strengths: Stays dry Napoleon pocket Fit Ease of care
Weaknesses: Cuff closures
Overall: I got this jacket from eBay for £95 so the value mark I have given is for the full price, saying that I would gladly pay £140 for this jacket. 18 months ago I decided to get this as my old commuter jacket (Altura Nevis) had given up after a year and I decided I needed something a bit longer lasting and dryer, boy did I make the right choice. This jacket has kept me dry on the wettest days and goes well with my Berghaus Accession trousers which are great too.
The jacket has a great fit with good collar and waste adjusters which really are one hand affairs unlike others. The Napoleon pocket is great for storing keys and there are 2 hand pockets and a rear pocket so you will not run out of space. The double zip cover works really well as do the waterproof pockets which really are waterproof.
Caring for this jacket is easy, just stick it in the machine with the pockets closed, let it hang for an hour then warm iron it to bring back the repellency. Now the pocket really are waterprrof because when you take it out of the machine they are still dry inside.
The jacket does breath to a degree but then again I have not found a jacket that does yet when you are working hard. It also has great zips unlike my past jackets which is important if you use it everyday.
The keys points to this being the perfect commuter jacket are 1: waterproof 2: easy care 3: pockets 4: durability
