'BETTER THAN YOU'D THINK!'
Strengths:
A decent winter tyre, does most of what you need with no fuss. Grips well on most surfaces, from hardpack through to wet mud, does wet tree routes predictably and sheds well.
Weaknesses:
Can't cope with really deep mud i.e. rim deep.
Overall:
Seems pretty good to me, grips the varied trails of Wharncliffe better than the WTB Moto Raptor 2.24 I was previously using. I should go for the 2.3 btw, its more like a 2.1 than a 2.3

'Goes about its business in an unobtrusive way'
Strengths:
Excellent rolling abilities for a wide tyre, grips well in everyday winter mud conditions good size side knobs allow confident cornering.

Works well on a narrow 717 rim and needs some effort to make them misbehave - spin out happened only when trying to make it happen.

The wide spaced tread allowed mud to shed and most of the time there was no mud cling - not used in caly mud though.
Weaknesses:
It might be too big for narrow frame clearances, as a wider tyre - it tends to be a bit floaty in deeper mud - but I guess that is not what it is designed for. Ok on roots - but there again - nothing really grips that well.
Overall:
I think I would be happy to use as a rear most of the time - the handling characteristics were good and it was predictable and fast rolling for its size. I suppose I just really forgot it was there - a bit like using a Vapour in the summer.

Not mud grippy like a trailraker or mud spike - you know when you need these sorts of tyre. For mixed winter mud and muck it's fine - even rolled well on the tarmac on the way to the trail - great value at £12.95 - not difficult to get on a 717 and looks quite mean too.

Recommended for your mixed winter ridding - but will be out performed in real deep mud by the mud specific tyres - went well in Swinley Forest mud - you'll need to gauge your local conditions.
