Strengths: Softens most medium to large bumps. Stupidly light!
Weaknesses: The clamp is 'use'less. I broke the bolts. I drilled it out and replaced them with larger stronger bolts. It can be harsh over repeated sharp bumps and doesn't soften smaller stuff.
Overall: worth it, but be careful with those small bolts
Strengths: Allows you to ride for longer without the bad back the day after. Lightweight for a suspension seatpost. Range of springs available.
Weaknesses: Very expensive for the performance. My rear muduard doesn't fit very well to the narrow seatpost. Will require shim for 90% of frames.
Overall: Not a valid alternative to a full bouncer, but does offer a softer ride for those with bad backs. Cheaper than swopping your stiff aluminium frame for a flexy steel one. But it is what i'd recommend over buying this product.
Strengths: Weight, Length, Alien Clamp, near enough bomb proof
Weaknesses: set up time. price compared 2 rigid posts but can get for around £80. Lettering wearing off shaft where seatpost is attached (very securly)
Overall: Takes the sting out of hits enabling me 2 ride 4 longer. Money well spent
Strengths: Light, easy to service (good support from U.S.E. - very clear service info on web site), good range of springs and shims available, quiet in operation
Weaknesses: The Alien clamp is very fiddly to set up. Not something to be repeated at regular intervals as the 3mm cap screw heads (2.5mm allen key) have a short life (in my hands, anyway), even using a new key..... Once the saddle position and angle is right, just tighten the cap screws after the first ride and forget it!
Overall: Expensive but effective; you don't realise what it is doing most of the time - until you go back to a rigid post Ouch!!! Personally, I'd recommend an SX (as on the missus' bike) with its simple seat clamp - only bought an XCR as the seat tube bore was too small for the SX...
Strengths: Strength is not USE's strong point Widely adjustable
Weaknesses: Rediculous Alien seat clamp is fiddly, weak and potentially dangerous.
Overall: Q: What does a suspension post add to a bike? A: Weight, complexity & cost.
If you think you might need a sus post then you've obviously bought the wrong bike (ie a hardtail instead of a full sus).
Even so, why would anyone go for one of these with it's pain-in-the-arse clamp, when the USE SX post has exactly the same internals and a better, stronger clamp for less money?
Weaknesses: Seat clamp from hell. Never grips unless you tighten so much you round out the Allen bolts
Overall: Bought one for the Mrs on her hardtail. She is very light and small and not heavy enough to activate the bounce. (Works fine for fat old me!!) still its lighter than her Halfords special original post so it stayed
