Strengths: Keeps your chain clean and lubed well Doesn't attract dirt
Weaknesses: Expensive A lot of waste Long drying time Ends up on your tyres etc. if your not careful when applying it
Overall: If you follow the instructions, this stuff is great, you end up with a clean and silent drivetrain. You MUST thoroughly de-grease and dry the chain and sprockets before the first application after that, it's just a case of wiping the chain after each ride and applying a new coating. I found it beneficial to apply three coats initially. If you're the type of rider that just squirts a bit of lube on the chain and then sets off riding, it wont work, you need to leave it drying for at least 3 hours (preferably over-night) to get the benefits.
Strengths: As compared to Finish Line XC lube, it's totally different kind of thing. XC lube attract dirt very quickly even without cycling. WL makes my chain very clean, no more dirty hand while working on bike. Before applying WL, I use Finish Line Ecotech Degreaser. I thought the chain is clean enough. But after applying WL, I notice lots of dirt coming out from the chain while I back pedal. It can be seen that WL 'deep cleans' my chain! When I cycle, can see pieces of dirt shedded off the chain, amazing!
Weaknesses: Expensive. Need to wait for at least 2 hours for the lube to dry up.
Overall: Highly recommended for spring/summer ride. Worth to try this product...
Weaknesses: Fundamental weakness- it doesn't lubricate You need to apply it FAR too reguarly It's messy It's expensive None of the last three matter- it doesn't lubricate
Overall: This was recommended to me by an lbs as THE summer lube.
I followed the application instructions to the letter and was initially impressed by its waxy dryness; I left it overnight to properly dry expecting great things.
To cut a long story short, being a newbie to regular off-roading I thought it was par for the course that the drivetrain would always have a bit of squeak, and that applying a fresh coat of lube every two to three rides was to be expected, even in summer. I was concerned how quickly the bottle went down but mtbing is expensive, right?
It finally ran out two weeks ago- yippee- so as a stopgap I applied some nice clear oil from a £1.70 Halfords bottle that I had lying around, and wow- the silence was (and still is) deafening.
The drivetrain actually feels smoother and I've only needed to re-apply today as I got the bike properly muddy and had to really clean it- it wouldn't have needed it otherwise. It is infinitely better than the White Lightning, and I took care to keep the WL away from water.
The blurb says that 'dirt just falls off this lube!'- maybe, but it doesn't get a chance because the lube has already fallen off the chain IME.
I'll try Finish Line Dry next year, but I'm not overconfident it'll be any better. I only wonder what the reviewers who gave this a high score used beforehand- spit?
Strengths: I can honestly not think of a strength - Olive Oil would have a more positive effect - or melt a candle on your chain it's alot cheaper.
Weaknesses: Time consuming to apply properly. Degreasing the change is essential. In British conditions the lubricant simply does not last. Any moisture and the lubricant just vanishes. Even on a road bike with new degreased chain, chainrings and cassette with 3 careful applications over three days the drive system was still far too noisy and there was a noticeable increase in resistance. On a mountain bike it just doesn't last.
Expensive and does not last very long
Overall: Poorest lubrication I have ever used - infact where did the idea come from that this stuff actually lubricates. A brand new drive train should not sounf like a bag of spanners.
Stick to a proper lubrication that does a proper job.
Strengths: Used WL when I was a fair weather rider only. Over a four year period had no problems and certainly seemed to shed dirt pretty good.
Weaknesses: You have to degrease chain before using for the first time. Have done more winter riding in last couple of years and WL no good in mud and extreme wet.
Strengths: The quality of the marketing bullshit is the best I've ever seen
Weaknesses: Unfortunately it's a pack of lies
Overall: So you go through the process... throughly degrease chain... apply a couple of helpings of this stuff... go out for a ride... and??? After 10 miles (at most), or at the first sign of water, your drivetrain will be sqealing like a stuck pig. This stuff is apalling, Finish Line make the best lubes.
