Strengths: Nice and chunky (lever and barrel adjuster). Cheapest lever with modulation adjustment.
Weaknesses: Quite heavy. Modulation is adjuted via alen bolt which rounds off VERY easily. Only 3 levels of moulation to choose from.
Overall: They are OK. There is a decent range of cable tension/reach/pull adjustment. However, the pull adjustment is adjusted via a tiny allen bolt made of very soft steel which just rounded off the second time I adjusted it. They might also be a bit bulky for people with small hands.
For the sake of a fiver, in future I'de go for the Avid SD 1.9s (I needed these in a hurry and my LBS don't stock Avid). These are lighter, and have fluid, on the fly modulation adjustment.
Strengths: Do the job, I guess. Worth it if they are giving tham away... ...even then... Body nice colour.
Weaknesses: 3 levels of modulation? Get stuffed, Shitmano! I don't usually get struck over weight but these are heavy. I rounded off the 5mm bolts used to secure to the bars. Poop pivots. There is play out of the box. The lever is alu (or is it steel?) and in winter very cold even through gloves.
Overall: I now have Avid Speed dial Titanium, and what a difference.
These levers cost £20. For £5 more (Chain Reaction), you can get an Avid Speed Dial 7.
I saw what MBR meant when they said they wern't keen.
Weaknesses: flexy! come lose at the pivotts after a while!
Overall: the bolt rounds off easly for a reason its so you dont overtighten them crusing the bar and also so that they move in a crash so they dont bend
Weaknesses: youll need to buy new cables as they attach at the end of leaver
Overall: good strong lever on a budget ive crashed many times into fence poles (as you do)and styed solid.one bad thing is when they get dirty they stay dirty and look dull but great improvement in power than my deores, promax ect high power setting is leathal!
Overall: Dunno what some of these reviewers are on - these are one of the best levers around. Avid SD's are more adjustable but I'd doubt they would survive hitting a tree @ 20mphish.
These are simple, strong adjustable levers which don't break. I hit a tree at roughly 20mph and bent one lever - however they work 100% still and as they are alu plate am sure I can straighten it without problem. Cast lever's would probably have broken in two.
