Strengths: light, stiff , agile climber...great balance, inspires confidence when climbing technical tracks.range of rear travel with instant adjustment really is oustanding feature, despite initial scepticism.
Weaknesses: tc system excellent once tuned but senstive to slight cable stretch and crud interference resulting in loss of lock out and traction modes...irritating. initially felt short cock pit which seemed to want to throw me on tight steep stepped turns...have adapted riding style.
Overall: a great bike that never ceases to induce a smile. climbing has become a pleasure. riding technique and style has changed but for the better. avid juicys can be annoying when in screech mood but work swell.sram stuff seems robust and reliable even in deep gloop, not as slick as xt, but dependable so far. worried about 34.9mm seat post..restricted choice for upgrades.
Strengths: Got mine for a bargain £1900, Lock out and traction mode superb Incredibly light weight, and mine was the huge XL Climbing and fast flowing riding immense
Weaknesses: The stock wheels were very weak, binned mine after 6 months of straightening them. The frame was too flexy for my taste, The supplied seat is beyond a joke uncomfortable
Overall: This is a great bike and I enjoyed riding it right up until a scumbag nicked it. The fox forks are fantastic, and mean you can lock down the whole bike for a very convincing road bike - really. I had great difficulty in getting the shock serviced, I was unable to for about 2 years of owning it, by which time it was a dog. I got the seatpost stuck in the frame, i think chemically, and didn't dare do anything too severe incase i damaged the carbon frame. So there it stayed. This bike is not suited to really steep technical desending in my opinion but for anything else it performed faultlessly. Due to the angle of the seat tube the higher the seat is the further you move backwards, which can make the front wheel skittish. With a new seat this bike has been comfortable enough for hours upon end of riding, road and on road, when the suspension is set up right it floats over most anything. And in comparison to the new one it was a bleedin bargain.
Strengths: plenty to play with, 3 rear shock settings makes long rides a doddle, but setting up the rear shock is important and makes all the differance to the ride
Weaknesses: if the the shock pressures are right none.
Overall: the mc genius is a perfect bike for those all day epic rides my best bike yet
Strengths: Go anywhere, do anything, Genius shock.
Weaknesses: A touch expensive.
Overall: A seriously good bike, I had an epic before this which was realy quick and racey, but wanted more control over the shock, this fitted the bill, it storms up and downhill as long as you can !!, I found the set up a doddle and I'm no tecchie, just adjust it according to your weight and go use this as a platform for any adjustments.
One thing though, having ridden an alloy framed back to back with mine (carbon), There's almost nothing in it so save your money and get the better specced alloy framed model
Strengths: Light as they come and climbs like a rocket but eats the up the rough stuff coming down ! A great bike with a great spec.
Weaknesses: None yet!
Overall: I have only had this bike a few w/ks and already I class it as the best bike I have ever had. The price is currently reduce from £2499 to £1899 so you are now getting alot of bike for your money! I contacted Scott UK direct to discuss the rear shock set up as I am a big lad and I cant fault their service or advice.
Strengths: Light weight, excellent suspension system, Fox forks, sensible equipment pakage. Makes you a better rider than you really are.
Weaknesses: Poor quality control, mine arrived with uneven laquer coat around the top of the seat tube with clamp in place it is visable. Purchased from Bikelab in Poole who tried to tell me I did it. Unfortunately for them I used to work with composites in the aerospace industry so was able to put them straight. Exceptionally poor dealer service and Scott dont seem to be interested in the quality of their product once it is sold.
Overall: Excellent bike let down by poor quality control and service on part of Scott and dealer Therefore reliability marked down WMB bike of the year 2005 need I say more
