Average Rating: 5 out of 5 No. of Reviews: 16 RRP: £85 Year: to 2006
Description: The 1 1/8" threadless headset has been mountain bike standard for a few years now. Now many road bikes have adopted this size and style. It works great there too. This change has made for stronger, lighter road forks and frames.
Strengths: Bearings that last longer than industry fashions. Loadsa colours. Truly fit and forget.
Weaknesses: None
Overall: You pay for quality. Two years down the line and the bearing are still spot on, once the bike had water inside the headtube that came out when I dropped the forks out. Problem? nope, a year later still as silky with nothing more than a wipe down.
Strengths: truly everything, its pretty, light, amazingly strong and smooth
Weaknesses: maybe price (however its worth it)
Overall: its really a choice, i had few 'great headsets' before - now i got king and its really the sh*t - def. worth considering if you want to build nice rig.
Strengths: Faultless, beautiful design. As all the previous reviews say it is fit and forget and only gets looked at if you change your frame.
All of those colours.
Weaknesses: My wife not understanding why I bought it.
Overall: I have saved up for an age for my new bike and as my dream spec changed as new parts came out I always wanted this headset. Any review that it takes part in it always score maximum points. Even now with other people offering headsets with the same 10 year guarantee no other brand has the same kudos. If you ride, get one.
Strengths: Its a Chris king, super smooth, built to last, will withstand UK's great weather. Better than the rest and it will out last everything on ur bike.
Weaknesses: Nothing, but alot of peeps will say price, but how much do u spend on headsets in 10 years!
Overall: You are not gonna get better than this. If you look at any review on 1 of these u will not see a bad review. It will be the last thing that needs replacing on ur bike They feel better than any headset i have ever used and will continue to do so for the next decade of riding, even in the great UK mud wich we all know and Love/hate.
Overall: I was going through 50 quid head set in less than a year. I have been running the king for 4 years and 3 bike. A Friend in currently in his 8th year of flawless use with no maintenance. Quality and Value in the long run.
Strengths: Smooth. Reputation and warrenty second to none. Mechanically simple yet robust.
Weaknesses: Price. Lack head lock device unlike Hope HS.
Overall: OK so you could buy a bike for the amount this costs, and a headset is one of the more hidden parts of the bike, yet I still feel happy with my purchase. I know it will last forever and be smooth.
My only niggle is the hope headset which costs a lot less yet has a similar reputation includes a headlock device to replace the star spangled nut.
