Most have a clipless system like SPD with a clip on each side of the pedal. The other option, more suitable for Freeride, is a double-sided flat pedal with pins or teeth to grip the underside of your shoe. Some models have a combination of grip and clip so they're suitable for use with either cycling or ordinary shoes. When you're fitting new pedals, make sure to grease the threads and remember the left-hand pedal has a left-hand thread!
