WITH LOTS OF SETUP AND A BRAKE BOOSTER WORK VERY WELL

Once setup properly (takes lots of time) and a brake booster fitted they stop very well - progressive feel and lots of power (and now no squeal - not even a bit !!).
Squeal like hell until setup and sorted
My Marzocchi MXC forks allowed the brakes to bend out too much and this made the squeal worse. Fitting a brake booster (£8) sorted this totally - I now have all the power I need for XC riding. I toe-in the pads by 1-2mm. Shimano or Aztec cartridge pads work OK (both squealed too !!)

POWERFUL,BUT SQEAL

Powerful & smoooth when doing stoppies,
Squeal, I've tried everything to stop it, the only way is to put them on the back instead of the front. On the back they never squeal,
very powerful, and conistent. Don't get them for the front unless you can put up with squealing, on the back they are great.

2004 VERSION STILL RUBBISH

look ok
not as powerfull as my stolen Avids and despite my dealer promising otherwise they squeal like hell! Supposedly Shimano redesigned this version. Judging by previous reviews the breaks have lost power and not gained silence.
I've played with them for hours as has my dealer so setup isnt the problem.

Basically buy Avid 7's!

LOOK AT COMPETITION BEFORE BUYING...

Look good, very powerful, good modulation (better than Avids) and parallelogram design keeps pads in right position (once they're there...)
Squeal, but can be avoided if set up ok (takes a very very long time). Spongyness caused by spring balance, no-one has mentioned this but on my Marzocchi forks they won't balance and keep the spring tension. Any tips please email me - are longer adjuster bolts needed? I don't know.
Have Avid on front, XT on back.
Less squeal and more positive braking on front, better modulation and control on rear. Probably wouldn't go for these again, especially at the price. Take your pick...
