GAVE GREAT SERVICE , NO COMPLAINTS

Have a cage round em that protects a little against knocks and Once or twice in muddy emergencys you can just pedal like normal pedals without bieng clipped in coz the cage is large enough ,that fact alone has Saved my ass once or twice.
Not as brilliant as non SPD,s type platform pedals as I thought they might be, Also heavyish.
I tend to write my reviews after Ive finished with the product , that way its normally a more honest review coz your not totally exited about your new bit of kit. Well my 545,s are at the end of their life I,ve had em about three years and theyve been great , always clipped straight in when I wanted to & Always got straight out when I wanted to, The Reason I got them was because I THOUGHT thet,d be O/K for riding as both SPD,s and Platforms but theyre not really suited for flats as the central clip mechanicals dont squash down inside the alloy cage far enough , So I just rode them as SPD,s and theyve been great .Am staying with the brand and replacing them with XTR,s.

SOLID, SECURE, NOT JUST FOR DH

Solid build, look great. Feel very secure when clipped in, platform big enough for those scary moments and just about grippy enough.
A tad heavy, clogs relatively easily.
Quite happy with them, they clog up fairly easily with bio-matter (mud is fine, grass and sods are a pain. Probably better pedals in this price braket, but I am invested in Shimano pedals and cleats so dont want to switch.

THERE ALL RIGHT

Light and adjustable
my cage crack really easliy although that hasn't effected proformance. Not good in mud really hard to clip in and out.
Good for price.

GOOD FIRST SPD PEDAL

Strong construction, easy to clip in and out of
None as yet but can be awkward to clip into when covered in mud
These are my first taste of SPD pedals and can honestly say I would not go back to platforms now. Been using them for about 3 Months and had no problems with them, apart from me not being able to unclip when you forgot you're attached to the bike as it's falling over, painful!

CHECK THEY'LL WORK WITH YOUR SHOES FIRST!

They're BIG and give you a good first taste of clipless pedals. If you don't clip in first time at the start of a descent, you're still ok to pedal.
The pedal surround sticks up past the bottom level of the cleat. With a pair of Diadora Gheckos, you just can't clip in. The requirement for an old fashioned spanner is stupid & there's a nice weak plastic ring RIGHT next to the spanner slot, which you shred if your spanner slips :o(
OK for a beginner in the SPD world - If you're ok with being superglued to your bike, then get the 959s. Be VERY wary of what shoes you run with them.
