Win an Olympus camera: The Nominees

Who's won an Olympus camera? Only you can decide...

by David Arthur

When we asked to see your best photos recently, we weren’t really sure what to expect, but we were duly flooded with photos. And the standard? Well, the bar has well and truly been raised. Which made narrowing the choice down to the best ten all the harder.

The photos below, in no particular order, are our favourites from those entered into the first stage of the competition to win a shiny and rugged Olympus [mju:] Stylus 790 SW camera. The final stage requires you lot to vote for the best photo, with the photographer responsible earning a fantastic prize.

The great thing about this new Olympus camera is that it’s properly rugged for outdoor use. That means it’s actually waterproof enough to pass IEC 529 IXP8 standards (which means it will survive being up to 3m underwater) and shockproof to MIL-STD-810F (which means a US soldier could drop it from a height of 1.5m onto the roof of a Humvee and still salute it). The battery/xD card slot and the USB port are all hidden behind weathersealed doors too. You can read more about in the review here.

Make your vote count - get into the forum and let us know. We'll be counting the votes as of 5pm on Friday 15 February and announcing the winner next week.

I think #4 even if it is a bit too MBR, not overly impressed by any, must try harder.

No. 7, like the look of concern on the bairns face.

(might have been 10, but don't like the watermark)

Number seven.

If I'd linked that last one DK would have launched into one of his photography lessons. Besides the water mark suggests it's been nicked.

I should just add that No.10 is my own work and appears on my website, hence the watermark

Number 10,

I love soft focus...... (I think thats right....)

Posted: 14/02/2008 23:29

Aesthetically speaking I like No. 6 but It's No.2 that gets my vote.
Posted: 14/02/2008 23:39

Kato - yes it is, and a damn fine one at that!
Posted: 15/02/2008 08:25

I have to say that 6 has the best composition and is really dramatic considering its content. However, for a true reflection of riding its got to be either 2 or 1 with 2 evoking the best feelings in me of getting out on the bike.

all the others i can see in any magazine with the same composition and style, I like number seven, its sharp and shows a nice aspect of cycling as a family activity that is not so often captured in images.

close call but I reckon number 10
Posted: 15/02/2008 12:14

Who cares about the bikes? But I reckon No.1 is High Street and No.9 is Porcupine Rim. Do I get a prize?
